I gasped, sitting up in bed, even my heart was pounding faster. The room was dark, the shadows danced as the moonlight filtered through the curtains. I tried to slow my breathing, telling myself it was just a dream. But the fear clung to me like a second skin. I lay back down, curling into myself as I willed my body to relax. But the moment my eyes fluttered shut, the nightmares returned—Darius’s laughter was louder in the dark, his voice taunted me as he held my mother captive, daring me to come for her.

I thought random sex was all I needed, but I was so wrong it’s almost funny. I close my eyes, allowing my body to relax as Grace’s breathing becomes heavier while she goes back to sleep. I don’t know how long it took me to sleep, but when I do, the nightmares come back crashing. The scream leaves Grace’s mouth with the terror on her face while her mother is dead on the floor. Her eyes blame me while she falls on her knees, crying over her dead mother’s body.

Elliot and I sat up, looking at them nervously as they walked in. " How are you, Sage?" father asks. " Good." I shrug. " The maid told me that you got a nightmare today." he whispers, sitting on the bed beside me. " Yeah, I thought to take a nap when I came back but I . . ." I trail off, feeling the nightmare flash into my mind . " What was the nightmare about?" Father looks at me, sympathy on his face. " Monsters." I whisper, looking at him with tears pooled into my eyes.

I wanted to roll my eyes, but I tried to understand what he was saying. “Tell me what you know.” “Ask me what you want to know,” he instead said. “What did you see about the future?” “Way back on my fifth birthday, I had a dream. It was my mom, my dad, my brother, and everyone from my pack was lying on the ground bathed with their blood. None of them were breathing.” I did not see it coming. “Why?”

I only told them he was sleeping and finally resting. Klaus’s mom sounded close to tears each time she spoke. It made my chest ache hearing how worried she was. By the time the fifth call ended, my eyes were already burning from exhaustion. Still, I forced myself to stay awake. I was scared that if I closed my eyes for too long, something bad would happen again. But eventually sleep dragged me under anyway. And then the nightmare came. In the dream, I saw a little girl. She couldn’t have been older than four or five.

Mom glances over at me again and asks, "Did you have anymore nightmares last night?" "Yes, I don't know what is going on.
