Chapter Two There was silence between us, the betrayal hanging thick in the air. Luke was standing there, Sophia beside him, and he made no effort to explain himself. He didn't even look sorry this time. He looked relieved. Relieved the secret was out, relieved the charade was over. The truth was finally out, and I was left standing there, a stranger in my life. "Rose," Luke finally said, cold and distant. "Now that you know, we can start off the process of ending this. We'll file for divorce, and you can go your way."

“Salve’s house?” I repeated and he nodded. "I know that Salve's our enemy from the very start. I once heard that he was talking to someone on the cellphone and I think that was your Aunt Trisha." He still answered. "And then?" I asked again. "He knew that I knew something, but he still pretended like it was nothing." I hugged him tighter. A few years have passed and Luke is still going through something like this. "I love you." That's all I told him. A light smile came from his lips and kissed me on my forehead.

Evan smiled. “Good for you. What did you want to say?” “I wanted to know your plans for tonight,” Evan responded. “You know I live with my dad now?” “Yes.” “And ever since all this happened, he has been strict with the people I hang out with. The only friend he allows to come see me is Melanie.” “Melanie?” “Yes Melanie. She’s still around.” Evan bowed his head. “Don’t worry she’s over you. She has a boyfriend now and he loves her,” Ludo smiled.

He said, "Yeah, mommy. I think so." The other night was the heart and lung center's ribbon-cutting ceremony. Evan sponsored a grand dinner at a nearby hotel, which lasted until eleven in the evening. Evan didn't want to leave Lucas behind, and the boy did not want to part with his father. Thus, Lucas came along. He was introduced to a few board members as Evan's son and Shantelle's. Again, it confirmed their suspicion about their relationship, but no one dared question Evan whenever he called Shantelle his wife. "I want to get more sleep," Lucas pleaded.

I asked. Luke sighed. "We had agreed not to get physically involved with anyone else, remember? And I didn't want to hurt you. I knew that if you found out, you would be hurt, and I didn't want to do that to you." I nodded, understanding. We had made a pact to keep our relationship platonic, at least until our mission was over. "Brie is my ex-wife," Luke said, his voice low. "We were married a few years ago, but I caught her cheating on me with Arthur. That's why we got divorced."

I answered quickly and pressed the phone to my ear. "Hey, Lucas," I said, approaching my car. "What's up?" Lucas's voice on the other end sounded slightly strained. "Hey, Evie," he replied. “Are you okay?” I asked, opening the passenger door. “You sound off.” “I've been thinking," Lucas started. I chuckled. "Oh, really? What's on your mind, Lucas?" Lucas cleared his throat, not sounding as chipper as he usually did. "Well, you know we've been pretending to be in a relationship for a while now. I think it's time to call it quits."

“What? Isn’t Alpha Luke Smith, Ms. Swan’s mate? asked Evandor with furrowed eyebrows. “Yes, he is. But you see, Luke and I were in this relationship for more than a year but suddenly, this merge happened and Elena entered his life and Luke broke up with me. He ended everything in seconds and threw me out of his life like a piece of trash!” Ira exclaimed in an enraged tone. ‘Right choice’ thought Evandor smirking internally. “Why do I feel like there was no love but everything else in the “relationship” you are talking about” Evandor said in a cold tone.

He didn’t want to make the situation any worse. It was pretty shit right now. It didn’t need to be added to. Also, he saw Luke as unpredictable right now. Luke has had failed relationships before. Two of those relationships failed out of greed. And not one of those failed relationships had Luke acting anything like this. If anything he was relieved. He went on his own way acting as normal as what Luke’s standards were. But not this time. This time, he was in love. He had never given his heart away before.

“I know it sounds crazy. But this could save Caleb’s life. I wouldn’t bring it up if I didn’t believe it was a real chance for you to save Caleb's life.” Cara leaned against the wall with her legs suddenly weak. She thought about the bills pilled up on her kitchen table, the eviction notices, the endless nights of worry and working nonstop. She thought about Caleb’s tired smile, his thin arms, his voice whispering, It’s just us against the world. Tears welled in her eyes. “And what about me? What happens when the year is over? Do I just walk away like nothing happened?” Mark’s expression softened. “That would be part of the deal. You’d go back to your life. Free and clear. With all the money

They got into the study room and Sarah was quick to mutter, “Why did you act like that to him? Luke will be my husband in few months..” Her father scoffed, “Husband? Scrap that. He's not your husband,” Sarah folded her fist, “Father-” Mr Velt cut her off by mentioning, “You should not deal with Luke for any reason. It will only ruin the image I've been building for years.” Sarah was startled by her dad’s words. “Father!” she grumbled obviously stunned by her father's outrageous words. It's not a new thing that her father doesn't approve of her relationship with Luke …most especially now when he's facing a lot.
