Jane’s POV “What’s the difference?” I asked. From the tone of her voice I could tell that she was going to start preaching to me but I was beyond that. I didn’t want to hear her preachings. “Nothing,” she shrugged while folding her arms. “Magic is not some cool power you can use for an upgrade. It’s more than that. Magic is a lifestyle. With magic you can create and destroy. With magic you can build and take down. Magic can be beautiful and it can be ugly. You don’t want to have magic with an ugly soul. Take it from me, it is never a good sign.”

He lets his hand rest on the shelf overhead, his gaze on the books instead of me. “My brothers and I were created from shadow. We are the only corporal beings on earth made with that magic. So while we aren’t shadows, we’re... related. In that we carry that magic inside us.” “Made” with that magic. That’s not the choice of word I expected when I ventured down this path. I open my mouth, ready to ask him what he means by “made,” but I stop before I utter a sound.

These monsters looked much more atrocious and terrifying, so I knew we would have to use magic from the magic wells to eliminate them. Finally, she let out a breath. “Alright, listen carefully, because I’m only saying this once. That tracking dust? The glittery stuff you can’t see but apparently burnt into your skin?” She gave a humorless smile. “It’s outlawed in the magical world. According to Lera, it’s one of the most dangerous things anyone can create. And guess who made it first?” The way she paused told me she wanted me to guess, but my brain was already a tangled knot of panic. “…The Moon Blessed?,” I asked slowly.

"But we are working it out. Hopefully we'll be able to have it all settled by this afternoon. We are halfway finished with the project already, and I'd hate to leave it the way it is." Normally a build like this would take years, but with magic it tends to speed up the processes. We have what we call weavers, they take elements and 'weave' them into things... Like clay and rocks and they become castles. Of course they need to be compensated, along with the materials we need. Nothing in life comes for free.

Every story has a beginning, some good, some bad, mine has never been a happy one, no matter who, or how I tell it, nobody will believe me. I can't rely on the people in my life, My parents ignore me, or are cruel to me, my friends are unreliable, and aren't trustworthy either. So what happens when I turn 16 years old, and run away from my problems to another world, only to find myself in the same magical world I played make belief in as a kid? With heartbreak at every turn, and a possible new relationship on the horizon, what could possibly go wrong in this world that hasn't happened to me on Earth?!

The room darkened slightly and magic hummed beneath my skin. Silver sparks danced across my fingertips. I hadn’t used magic in months. I knelt beside the ruined gown and closed my eyes, so I could be focused. I couldn’t cause restoration tha would require too much power but creation was better. Red light flickered across my hands and a fabric appeared slowly with threads weaving itself from magic. Lace forming from nothing. The spell strained against the seals hiding my abilities and swear beaded along my forehead. Come on. Just a little more. A little more.

Okay…I can do this…I have to do this. I hold my hands out in front of me, bringing strings of magic together to form an energy ball. The second the magic sparks around me, the creature snarls and takes off down the hall toward me. I jump away from the wall, holding the energy ball out in front of me and continue to feed it more and more magic. It’s blindingly bright, swirling with bits of white and blue magic.

Varrow leaned against the wall, bleeding but grinning. “You should let it take him,” he said, voice ragged. “One less threat to you.” Killian didn’t even look at him. He poured his will into the magic — not to control the shadows, but to change them. He pushed light into them, thin cracks of pale silver running along the tendrils like veins. The First hissed. For a moment, the pull weakened. Daryl’s body stopped sliding. His breathing was shallow, ragged, but he met Killian’s eyes.

I didn't have the first clue and a small whine escaped from me as I tried to figure it out. Derek understood my dilemma, "Just relax, take a deep breath, and concentrate hard on being human. The magic should do it automatically." I took a deep breath and tried to picture myself as I looked in the mirror. I put all my will into that thought and concentrated on becoming human. It took me a long moment, but I felt the world begin to melt and shimmer around me. I ended up crouched on the table completely naked.
