"They have, ever since she was born." Cassandra set the little serpent among the piles of gold coins. The creature sagged in defeat and exhaustion after lying before that terrible fire. "There it is," Vasilisa's voice came from behind a mountain of walnut-sized raw rubies. It wasn't hard to find the book. It was placed on a golden stand in between two golden Sirin statues. The grimoire turned out to be the largest book Cassandra had ever seen, with pages made of parchment illuminated with tracery, and it was open to a page thickly covered with elegant, intricate writing.

Alice whispered, her voice echoing in the stillness. “Seemed it is,” Pedro said, leading her to a small, cluttered room filled with candles and strange objects. The air felt thick with unease. Alice’s eyes fell on a small black book tucked away in a corner. She picked it up, her fingers trembling as she opened it. “Look at this,” she said, her voice barely a whisper. “Spells… ancient spells.” Pedro's eyes widened in fear. “She’s a disciple of the devil,” he said, trying to mask his terror. “We shouldn’t be here.”

It looked ancient, its pages wrinkled and brittle. "I think... I think I might have found something that can help," she said, her voice trembling slightly. She opened the book to a seemingly random page and began to read, her finger tracing the invisible lines. "This book... it speaks of a spell. A spell that can induce a temporary state of unconsciousness in shapeshifters. It can also help us detect them hiding amongst the villagers." She paused, her gaze meeting ours. "If we cast this, we can expose any spies that the Blue Moon pack might have planted, and maybe, just maybe, put a stop to their plans."

And there wasn’t any I hadn’t tried. Angry at myself, I hissed and threw the book to a corner, ready to leave. My eyes fell on another book down the shelf, hidden carefully away from view. I leaned over and brought it out. Dusting away the dirt on it, I glanced at the book. Its cover was black leather, etched with sigils that pulsed faintly as if alive. “Spell of forbidden magic,” I read out loud. Dark magic. Forbidden magic. It was the same kind of spell I was sure Darius used on me.

I gasped and looked at Malphus who was staring up at me with beady eyes. Who was this? “It is I, Malphus.” the voice spoke back and I recognized that Malphus’s voice was not throaty or anything masculine. It was rather a cute voice. Omg! How? The voice replied “I’ll explain it to you later. Repeat the spell that I say after me and click your fingers after you say the spell.” Okay.

“It’s okay Terra. We will find them, whoever they are.” To the left I notice human footprints that turn into wolf prints. I whistle to Maliyah to get her attention. She sniffs the prints and looks confused. I can tell she is not finding a scent. We follow them for quite some time until out of no where, another spell comes flying from our left and hits Maliyah. As the spell hits her, it sends her body into me and we both go flying. My back hits a tree and we slide to the ground. I groan in pain and when I look down I realize Maliyah is back in her human for, unconscious. The spell didn’t seem to really harm her, as I find no marks, but it did knock her out.

I replied. "Come on, let's hear it" said Finral, one of my mates. He was Chinese and very tall. Most of the other guys grumbled in agreement as well. "First of all, I would like to apologise for failing you guys at the... realm. I don't know what happened" I started. "George the second. His sword contains a numbing gel. The moment he cuts you with it. It will slowly make you loose all cognitive function. I knew you were done for the moment he cut you" said Matilda, she was a cute girl with glasses.

Having said that, he entered the portal before it closed. Malachi sighed and went to sit on the edge of the bed with both hands on his head. His mind was a mess. His head hurt as he reeled at what Veryl just confessed to him. At why she left without a goodbye and turned him into a mad man, trying to find her. He closed his eyes at distant memories of how he wasted years just to be able to cross between worlds to find her. “Fuck me!” He muttered. As Draco's incantation reached its crescendo, a surge of energy crackled around him, casting an ethereal glow upon his figure. With a flick of his wrist, Draco unleashed a spell, directed at the monstrous form of Malia.

Two weeks later, it happened again. Leesa’s book had not shown her anything about the spiral energy pattern, despite many attempts by her to learn something. The magical tome usually seemed able to read her mind—no matter where Leesa opened the book when she was looking for a specific spell, the spell she sought would be there. Sometimes, when she wasn’t looking for anything specific, the book would present her with a new spell it either thought Leesa was ready for or that she needed.
