Before I can say one goddamn thing, His mark explodes in light. So bright it burns. And everything goes white.

I asked, growing increasingly more concerned. "We don't know what happened, but Chase found them. Agent Marks was found dead at the scene." "WHAT?!" I unknowingly shouted, altering Jessica and waking Maverick from his sleep. Maverick began to cry, and Jessica picked him up, holding him in a tight hug. She looked over at me, but I didn't miss the concerned expression on her face. I could tell that she knew that something was wrong, and was desperate to find out what had happened. I switched the phone over to speaker phone, knowing that Jessica desperately wanted to know what had happened. Thankfully, Maverick was too young to understand what was going on.

Marcky's expression tightened with concern and fear as he realized the severity of the situation. Reacting quickly, Marcky summoned his purple lightning, creating a barrier of high voltage around them. The mindless creatures that had been closing in were instantly repelled, their bodies convulsing as the electric charge surged through them. Marcky's knees then went soft as he kneeled in beside Hannah. Liam, kneeling on the other side of Hannah, had panic evident in his eyes. "Hannah, hang on! We need to do something!" He then started to look around, trying to see what he could use.

I needed the pack doctor. Linking him, he comes quickly. His hands recoil the moment he touches Lana’s skin. “She’s so cold.” “I know. I don’t understand.” She had gone cold before, but not like this, this was on another level. “Your mark?” The doctor asks as he points to Lana’s lightning bolt. “No, this is mine.” I rolled her enough to show the doctor the blue crescent. “We need the person who gave her this.” He points at the lightning bolt “Are you serious?”

Beside me, Silas let out a ragged choke, his massive body stumbling against the concrete wall as the fake wolves' poison began to mix with his blood. "They're... thick..." Silas groaned, his golden eyes flickering back toward a weak gray. His claws scratched uselessly against the wall as his knees began to buckle under the heavy pressure of the green light. "Not to me," I hissed. I didn't have my laptop, and I didn't have a weapon, but I had the blood of the Lunar Priests flowing through my veins. I didn't try to stop the power this time. I reached down to the raw stone at my neck, pulling a massive wave of silver-violet lightning straight out of my Mark.

She spun, knife up, searching the dark. “The next one won’t be,” she warned. “I hope not,” I murmured, stepping easily over her trap. “I’d hate to be disappointed in my future mate.” Her knife flashed through the air. I caught it by the handle, the blade halting inches from my cheek. The silence let me enjoy the weight of it in my hand... well-balanced, sharp, wrapped in weathered leather. Mara’s mark was carved near the base: a crescent moon and three lines. Old rebellion. Old blood. She’d likely never told Maeve what it meant.

I said, inching closer to the spot close to him, at the same time, trying my best to avoid Shawn's eyes. “Marcus.” He offered his hand casually. “One of the pack’s betas.” I shook it, surprised by the warmth of his grip. He smiled again, wider this time, one of his cheeks dented with a dimple. His eyes flicked briefly between Shawn and I, like someone who just noticed something. Whatever he noticed, made his grin falter just slightly. Not disappearing, just… adjusting. That's when I look at Shawn, his face masked in a scowl. He didn't say anything or do anything, but the air became a bit stuffy, even though we stood in the well ventilated hallway with tall, open windows.

[Astoria’s Pov] When I opened my eyes, the ceiling above didn’t look like the one I was used to seeing every morning. This one had dark wood beams and…then the lighting seemed too…dull. Why was I— The question triggered the memories. The wedding. Lena running. The forest. And then— The wolf. The mere memory of that massive creature made me gasp. I pushed myself upright too quickly. Immediately, I regretted it as pain lanced through my head.

She looks up at me and then smiles brightly as she says, “Good. You’re marked.” I nod, “Yeah…about that. There’s something I forgot until now.” She frowns as she asks suspiciously, “What is it?” I take a deep breath as I tell her, “Lux marked me before I lost my wolf. The mark didn’t stick. It would last a couple days and then fade.” She looks confused by my statement and then stands up and briskly walks past me as she says, “Follow.” I follow Zara into a room that looks like a doctors office. She grabs something out of a cabinet. I watch as she fills a syringe and she walks towards me and says, “Stay still.”

Devin says. Marcus lets out a strangled laugh. “No. Marking for a witch is very different from marking for a wolf. When a witch marks someone, they are using their life force to protect them. A mark appears on the protected witch’s forearm and will remain there for the rest of their lives, as will the protection. It’s one of the few things that the Harry Potter series got right about witches, when Harry got his lightning bolt scar from his mom sacrificing herself to save him. It can only be done when the marker loves the one they are protecting dearly and is typically only used in life and death situations because it will kill the marker the first time the protection is used.”
