The girl pursed her lips and, stretching out her hand, felt the already known emptiness with her fingers – the pearl was missing. Nocté heart painfully squeezed, her breath hitched, and black dots covered her eyes. Through the veil, she saw a live newt, heard the wonderful melody of awfully familiar voice – her own, which she had had since birth and gave to the sea witch in exchange for human legs. The newt were crawling out of the water to her, scratching the stone floor with his nails. The sea was roaring behind her. The unlucky newt's lips spread into a happy smile, his gaze was enchanted, his mind was drugged by singing.

Luckily, the mermaid waited for me to return, and she started to splash her dolphin friend again. During my dreams, I heard a distant loud crashing sound. It sounded like something smacked into a hard surface, rattling the walls. That didn’t make much sense considering I was under the sea with the little mermaid and her dolphin. I looked at her, asking a question through our made-up sign language. She shook her head, splashing the dolphin again and then me. Giggling, I started to join in on her silly water games before another loud sound woke me back up in my bed. This one was too real for me to ignore and pretend like it didn’t happen. It was a very shrill scream, like someone getting tortu

The trials and tribulations, the moments of doubt and despair, all seemed worth it in this moment of triumph. Suddenly, a gentle breeze swept through, carrying with it a melodic sound that stirred my heart. I turned towards the source of the sound and saw a figure emerging from the nearby lake. It was a mermaid, her ethereal beauty captivating me. Her tail shimmered in the fading light, and her eyes sparkled with a wisdom that seemed to transcend time. She approached me with grace, her voice echoing in my mind. "King Zavier," she said, her voice like the soft whisper of the waves. "I am Triton, the Mermaid King, ruler of the depths."

Anne closed her eyes, still singing as she watched them meet their demise, her vengeance fulfilled in the blood-stained waves. She finally transformed into a mermaid and swiftly circled the ship multiple times. Anne halted, drifting away as the ship shattered into pieces, some sinking into the ocean depths while others bobbed on its surface. With a smirk, Anne heard a familiar voice from behind. "You did well," the voice echoed. Anne turned, a wide grin spreading across her face. Bowing humbly, she said, "I am glad that you are pleased, Mother."

I didn't know if it was the alcohol in her system, but her voice wasn't as bad as the first time I heard her singing in the bathroom. I chuckled as I recalled what happened that night. "That is definitely The Little Mermaid, Ariel's beginning." I told her as we finally reached my bike. "Yes, correct. You're a genius. You know, it's kinda hard to believe a guy like you would sit down and watch animations. Oh God! I can't even imagine it." She said dramatically. She still swayed a bit but it wasn't as bad as before. She had been smiling all this while and little did she knew, that it was fucking with my mind.

Wiping her eyes, Aurora stood. Waving her hand in the air, the Empress bid farewell to the selkies from afar. Phoca waved in return as she began the next song. This was a song Aurora recognized. It was the one Nanny had sung to her to guide her way. The Empress climbed into her tent and closed her eyes. She drifted off to sleep, and with the help of the songstresses she dreamed of the many adventures yet to come.
