The air inside the Koti Bypass tunnel was freezing, smelling of ancient dust, stagnant water, and damp limestone that hadn't seen the sun since the mid-nineteenth century. ADY It's almost midnight, but our town and maybe even other places still don't have power. ~Maxine's POV~ The neon haze of downtown Seattle blurred at the edges as I stumbled out of The Midnight Sun bar, the bass from inside still thumping in my chest like a second heartbeat. It was past two a.m., and the street was a ghost town, empty sidewalks slick with rain, the kind that never quite washed away the grime.

It doesn’t really matter because after what I just saw I don’t want to be out here in the dark longer than I already have been, so I let him lead the way hoping he knows where we are going. I hear a roar in the distance, that’s so loud the trees around us shake. “What was that?” I asked my voice trembling. “Don’t worry, it’s nothing that can hurt you. Probably just a bear.” he reassured me, but he also picked up the pace. The moon is now covered by clouds and I can’t see two feet infront of us. Im starting to wonder if we are even safe in that small cabin? Within minutes I see the light coming through the windows. The cabin was this close by, how did I get so turned around?
