The kind that came right before a person completely lost their mind. Older Adrian immediately closed his eyes. “Oh no.” Elaine frowned through tears. “What?” Older Adrian sighed. “That’s the laugh.” Adrian looked toward him. “What laugh?” “The laugh you make right before you do something incredibly stupid.” The Original Elaine nodded. “He’s right.” Adrian glared at both versions. “You two are surprisingly annoying.” Elaine almost smiled despite everything. Almost. The Fracture shook violently again. A huge section of reality disappeared. Darkness swallowed an entire horizon.

I yelled after myself, rushing out into the freezing night air. And honestly? The farther we got from the mall, the funnier it became. Maybe it was the adrenaline. Maybe it was Maeve laughing like a lunatic ahead of me. Or maybe it was the janitor’s angry yelling, sounding weirdly like minion language from a distance. Either way, laughter burst out of me before I could stop it. Real laughter. The type that made my stomach hurt as I trailed after Maeve, my eyes never leaving her as I tried to lift my legs carefully one after the other.

I giggled and I clearly heard Chaos's grunt from the background. 'Ha! Someone is grumpy...' I sang in our mindlink while giggling like a child who found a candy.

The first clip we played was a loud, angry trumpeting noise from an elephant, and it just about made everyone in the room jump out of their skins. I would have died laughing, except I couldn't really laugh. Or die. I sensed Mirele's amusement as her father scolded us for scaring them. Grandfather just grinned, shaking his head, then reminded Lance that since we had given up so much, could he really blame us for wanting to have just a bit of fun?

They’ve even fallen to a routine, which is singing, storytelling and laughing, eating, light drinking, repeat. And it doesn’t come as a surprise that Logan shares plenty of his anecdotes. He thinks that he doesn’t sound stupid in at least one of them. But hey, he doesn’t have to know that until the right time comes. “I have a sensitive soul, you know,” he laments jokingly. “When you say it like that, I become deaf to any good parts of your story,” Megan retorts and almost instantly, everyone falls into howls of laughter.

The gentle and weak version of him had disappeared altogether. Suddenly, a pillow flew in his direction and smacked him in the face. His laughter died instantly. As he took it off his face, he grinned. “Honey, I understand you are not happy with my laughter but let me laugh like this for a while. Mua ha! Ha! Ha!” He continued with his evil laugh.

Svetlana's voice kept echoing in my ears back to back. For a moment it felt like my surroundings had turned into pin drop silence and only her voice could be heard. To me, the sound of her laughter felt like that irritating viral laugh audio you have heard on social media, annoying and full of cringe. It seemed as if she was laughing at me like I was some kind of dumb joke. It felt like my world stood still for a second. The information was too much for me to process at that moment.

~Lyra~ She straightened up, wiping a tear from her eye, still giggling like she’d just pulled the world’s most expensive prank. Her laugh had that high-pitched, wheezy chaos to it — the kind of sound that came from the gut, like she was unhinged and delighted and fully prepared to emotionally destroy me before breakfast.

she giggled at her own joke. Guila’s giggle rippled through the air, a moment of levity amidst the heavy atmosphere. Her joke, bizarre and unexpected, painted a vivid picture in my mind. I couldn’t help but smile at her words, the image she conjured absurdly amusing. It was as if, even in the darkest moments, she managed to find a glimmer of humor, a ray of light that pierced through the shadows.
