Myra encouraged softly. They arrived at the grand venue shortly after. The Lunar Ball was breathtaking, crystal chandeliers sparkled like stars, flowers adorned every corner, and soft moonlight filtered through massive arched windows, bathing everything in a magical silver glow. The full moon hung high in the sky, amplifying the charged atmosphere. Both girls slipped on their elegant masks before stepping out of the car.

Gabrielle smiled, “My punishments aren’t nearly as bad as yours. Don’t you worry about me.” After finishing my lists, and preparing dinner, I stood in the corner of the dining room, waiting for people to finish, when Alpha Ben stood and the room went quiet, “My pack, I have a special announcement. We will be hosting the Moonlight Ball in two weeks! I know you ladies are upset that it may not be enough time to get your dresses, so I have invited fifteen designers and their seamstresses to come here with their latest creations. Golden lanterns lit up the paths in the village, and their dancing light made it look like the trees' shadows were dancing to the tune of the music. Now all Adriana had to do was make sure Luna Marie saw her so no one would come looking for her until it was too late. The Moon Goddess Ball was in full swing when she got to the event center; a modern, upbeat tune was playing in the dimly lit space. Other than a few curious glances from the people from Black Moon pack, no one paid her any attention. She thought someone from another pack attempted to stop her as she went to the food table, but she pretended not to hear.

Robert grunted his agreement and pulled me along, cutting in front of people to get to the front of the line, ignoring all the angry grumbles that followed us. “Hi! Welcome aboard! We’re letting all of our passengers know that we’re having a Moonlight Promenade on the second floor of the deck in the ballroom around 9 o’clock tonight. We hope to see you there!” A member of the crew greeted us at the door, handing out pamphlets as we passed by. I inwardly cringed. Robert loved to dance and I had zero rhythm, but I knew we were going to be there. “You most definitely will!” Robert told her as we followed another crewmate to our room.

She can’t bleed out on the floor of his room like an unwanted thing. Her legs barely support her as she stumbles toward the door. Her vision swims. Her heart feels like it’s being crushed inside her chest. The sounds of music float up from downstairs — laughter, clinking glasses, soft murmurs of alliances being formed under the watchful eyes of the full moon. The Moon Gala. Every year, under the brightest full moon, the Gala brings together packs from across the lands. Grand feasts, formal dances, secret negotiations... smiles masking rivalries, alliances sealed with toasts.

Lucius shakes his head. Bastian chuckles. “I think we can agree to that.” Lucius grunts. Jayson leans forward. “What about the moon? Now that you're with us, we need to bring you into the rotation for the ball.” “Ball?” Lucius raised a brow. I shake my head. “I don’t think we want to participate in that.” Lucius turns to me. “What ball?” I look around the table then meet his eyes. “The Blue Moon Ball is an event. Like a party for all the packs to get together and find fated mates.”

I’d love nothing more than a good murder thriller right now. I hold the banister as I head downstairs and adjust to the heels. The book and sunglasses are in one hand. I stop at the bottom of the staircase to get my bearings. Moon took me past the pool by turning right after we walked outside via the kitchen exit. I open a pair of double doors beneath the stairs and discover a huge ballroom complete with a built-in bar at one end and a dance floor. Two additional sets of double doors open into this room. Sheer drapes show the pool area outside.

Joanne’s POV The palace glittered beneath the silver glow of the moon. Lanterns carved with delicate crescent patterns floated in the air, shedding soft light that shimmered off marble pillars. The gardens had been transformed into a dreamscape of silver and sapphire, vines wound with fairy lights, fountains spelling crystal water that caught the moon’s reflection through the moonroof. Tonight was the Moonlit Masque, the most celebrated vampire ball of the season. Every noble vampire in the realm attended, cloaked in silk and velvet, their faces hidden behind their masks, which were fashioned like stars and shadows.

She was one of the people who could read my countenance well, so I had to really act it out. Promptly, everyone drove their eyes to the roof of the Ballroom. Now, there was one more feature of this magnificent Ballroom I hadn’t exposed. But now that everyone was looking up, you should rightly guess it’s about the roofing. The Ballroom had a retractable roof which the operators configured to open up on every night of the Full Mating Moon, permitting an immaculate viewing of the Full Moon in all its glory. Only then would the Mating Ball officially begin. Now, a mechanical creaking sound could be heard as the roofs were being retracted. Slowly the moon's fluorescence was beginning to peak into

"I'll go check us in. Why don't you both wait in the elevator core?" I knew what he meant and led Noelle inside. The noise hit me like a wall of sound. My God, it was loud. I whimpered in pain and put my fingers in my ears. I had no idea just how sensitive my werewolf hearing was until faced the unbearable din of the casino. Noelle pulled me back outside and showed me how to roll the gooey disks into balls and then flatten them in my ears. She brushed my hair forward to cover my ears and we headed back inside. The elevator core was where I remembered it and it wasn't long before Derek joined us. "CanUS reserved a huge block of rooms in the tower. We're on the 26th floor."
