she barked then froze when she saw my face. The guards behind her were already dead. A wolf stepped into the doorway half-shifted, eyes wild, foam flecking his lips. Madness radiated off him in waves. Council assassin. He lunged. My body moved before my mind did. I caught his arm mid-swipe, fingers closing around bone with impossible strength. Shock flashed across his face. I felt it then the rightness of the violence. The way my muscles sang as I twisted, hearing the snap of bone, the scream cut short as I slammed him into the wall.

He starts to head off to his room but I get in his line of sight and stop him first. “Kade! What the hell happened to you? Why are you so grumpy?” “Huh?” he asks, finally registering that it’s me in front of him. “Oh, sorry. Nothing happened, I’m not grumpy. Saw the rogue, but there was already a hunter on him and they took him down before he crossed over. That’s it, end of story,” he says shortly. “Really? And it was the same spot that the human was found at, right?”

I was full of anger that I didn't notice what was happening to her surroundings anymore. "Look what you've done!" "Stop nagging me. You did the same thing too, Amaya. You almost hurt Nathan!" Jonathan smiled, tearing the remains of his shirt off to show a breastplate of silver underneath. Nick pounced on Jonathan, and he kicked Nick back, drawing his pants' leg up to reveal a holster. He drew a stiletto out from it, and jumped on Nick. Nick tried to shake him off, but Jonathan grabbed on to his fur and stabbed him in the torso with the knife, dragging it down. Nick howled as his skin ripped, the pain twice as much because the knife was made of silver. Jonathan was about to stab him again, when out of nowhere, a lycanthrope hit him from behind and dragged him away from Nick, throwing him with such force that he crashed into a faraway tree.

Hunter growled angrily as the three creatures drew closer to us. Then a hiss rushed towards me from one of the creatures, making me tighten my stand, but Hunter immediately put it down to the ground. It was a wolf, but why did it smell different? The other two jumped on us and I quickly swung the wood on its neck, making its head snap in an odd way. The other one made its way to me and ripped apart my shirt, making me fall to the ground. As the rogue quickly got on top of me, Hunter's wolf hissed at it and barred its teeth to the rogue's neck. Snapping its head off away from me.

I smiled gently. “You have a warrior’s body.” I ran my fingers down a particularly ropey scar down her side. “What was this one from?” “Bobby Brown,” she said. “A werewolf that liked to hunt human children. He had a thing for their hearts. He’d barbecue them.” She shuddered with the memory. “He had killed my client’s nephew. Took me a week but I got him. Brought his heart to my client as proof.” She spoke matter of factly, no pride in her voice. She might not be proud of herself, but I was impressed. I had heard of Bobby Brown and had heard of the hunter that got him. I didn’t realize it was her.

Then clash, clash, clash. My heart raced, what could be going on?. I questioned myself. Then I felt pain in my abdomen, I stumbled and sat on the bed. I feel strange that I was starting to hear things, though I stood up deciding to make sure there was nothing going on. I opened the door and looked out, sure there were voices down the second floor. "Let him go, hunter boy." Madame Maggie's voice rang into my head and then it clicked, "Hunter boy." I ran as fast as I could to the second floor and towards the few people peeping into the room. I stepped towards the door and I froze at the horrible sight before me.

Blake sat at his desk, staring intently at the hunter standing in front of him. The hunter's face was stoic, but Blake could sense the unease radiating from him. "What did you find?" Blake asked, his voice low and serious. "It's not a werewolf, sir," the hunter replied. "The creature looked exactly like Megan, even though we know she's dead." Blake's eyes widened at the mention of Megan's name. He had thought that he had taken care of her for good, but apparently, he was wrong.
