I took a slow swallow, letting the burn hit my throat, but it didn’t ground me the way it usually did.
If anything, it sharpened everything.
Because now there were no distractions.
Just me.
And her.
Always her.
I set the glass down and pulled open the drawer, my fingers finding the journal exactly where it always sat. I flipped it open, the pages worn just enough to show it wasn’t new, wasn’t a passing habit.
This was where I put things I didn’t say out loud.
Where I kept the parts of myself that didn’t belong anywhere else.
For a moment, I just looked at the blank page.
