Mystery Reading Novels & Stories

I walked downstairs to my boutique with a mug of coffee in my hand and a book which I'm currently reading. It was still raining outside making a puddle of water in different places on the street. I sat down in front of my counter and took a sip of my coffee. "Um, heavenly." I said and put the mug on the counter in front of me as I opened my book and started to read. I was reading a criminal novel. I only read three genres and that is romantic, criminal and fantasy.

I can feel a shiver run down my spine as I gulp. Something is weird about the atmosphere... how come everyone suddenly disappears? I slowly swallow the candy that was sitting in my mouth. It was a soft candy, so it didn't hurt my throat. Clenching the handle of my bag tightly, I try to walk as normally as I could master. *Bathump! Bathump!* Calm down... there must be a reasonable explanation why this happened, right? A shadow shape of a person appeared behind me. The more I try to walk faster, the more it follows me. Turning around to the different alleyway, I tried to lose the shadow. Since I wasn't paying attention to where I'm heading, I ended up walking to a dead end.

Suddenly Celine felt this prickling sensation behind her neck, as if someone was watching. So she looked around, and her heart skipped a beat when she saw it was her mystery guy in the dark suit. She stared right back, issuing a challenge. ‘Hey there. Took you forever to notice me,’ she thought. ‘Let’s see who gives up first?’ She raised an eyebrow, and he grinned, so she smiled back. Celine felt like some communication passed between them in the few seconds they stared at each other.

Lastly, do note that this is not a horror book, but they are traces of horror in it (depending on the readers perspective). Unless the author makes a mistake, the main genre of the book is a mystery, and will only be known, after the book is completed. I wasn’t thirsty either—that I already forgot my pitcher inside Nickos’ room. Perhaps, I would not be able to sleep the whole night. Things were undeniably confusing me as I ambled inside my room and locked the door. I took off my robe and neatly returned it to my black mannequin. Letting my lampshade open, I sat at the center of the bed and tirelessly leaned my back on its cushy headboard. I was completely baffled, and I hated this feeling! Then, I just blankly stared at the ceiling. It seemed like my mind was traveling in a big puzzle, having the benefit of the doubt regarding my parents. It was hard to find the missing puzzle pieces when those were intentionally kept or hidden from me.

Rose answered in a playful tone. "What were you searching for here, for which you...stayed outside whole night for days..and almost weeks?" I completed my sentence, struggling to find the right words before looking at Rose who was standing still, her sudden silent and erect posture making me even more suspicious. "I don't think it's really important to share 'cause it's just a trivial matter, you know all these murder mysteries-" "I love mysteries, you know that right? My bookshelf and closet are filled with books based on criminology and stuffs based on them though I'm a doctor by profession so you must know of my addiction for murder mysteries by now?"

She said furiously and I chuckled saying. "What happened you got up this early... and more to that reading a... book?" She raised a brow saying "Just because you often see me sleeping in the morning doesn't mean I sleep all night. And by the way. Reading is my hobby. And this is a Novel called Darling don't run away. Not just a book" I sat close to her as she was looking at my every action from head to toe. "What!?" I asked looking at her expression "Not. Nothing. It's just that. You're distracting." she said and i raised my brows

But nothing seemed to match the symbol on my door. Frustrated, I leaned back in my chair, rubbing my temples. There had to be something here, some clue that I was missing. I glanced at the stack of books beside me, my eyes landing on one that looked older and more worn than the others. Its leather cover was cracked and faded, the title barely legible: *The Mysteries of Silverwood.* I pulled the book closer and opened it carefully. The pages were brittle, the text handwritten in an elegant script. As I flipped through the pages, a passage caught my eye:

"A... used one?" "A romantic mystery," you said, showing her the front. "It's from the seventies, and is about a female detective who gets involved with the man who hires her to investigate his wife's murder. I'm hoping it's got Castle vibes." She broke into a smile, taking the book from you and turning it over in her hands. Then she kissed you again, on her tiptoes. "Has anyone told you that you're the sweetest?" she asked. "Not today," you smiled.

As I flipped to the next page, I took a sip of coffee and continued reading, almost reaching the end of the page, I heard footsteps coming from the hallway, I gaze at the door and then back to the book. My expression changed after I read a paragraph. The number one thing I love about mystery novels is that they always come with unexpected twists. I was about to flip to the next page when I heard fast footsteps from the hallway. "What is Jess doing?" I whispered, shrugging back to continue reading the book. As I heard my door crack open, I turned around and looked in its direction, it looked like the wind blew. I looked back at the book while taking the last sip of coffee, I marked the page I
