I went to the living room and, as expected, found the pair of underwear I was looking for in his bag. Downstairs, I called my best friend. "Help me look up someone. I have shopping records." I started the car, planning to visit the real estate office to check on property transactions. Suddenly, I felt something sharp poking at me from underneath the seat. I reached down and pulled out a black lace bra. Clearly, it matched the underwear. This car was usually Milton's—since I worked near home, I usually took the subway. This meant their entanglement that night had probably started in this very car.

“Back before you were a world-famous author, huh?” Brad laughed. “Yeah, back then I was working for my hometown paper writing obituaries.” “So your work hasn’t changed too much; you’re still writing about death.” “I suppose you could look at it that way.” “I’ll confess I haven’t actually read any of your books. I know of you by reputation, but I’m a bit too squeamish for horror. A mystery, on the other hand, suits me just fine.” “Hey, to each his own. Or her own. I like mysteries, too; in some ways they share similar elements with horror.”

Jordan says. Ignoring him, I turn to the first chapter of the book. Secrets. Just so you know I didn't picked it because of that scum, I kinda like it too. "Okay, I will do just as you say, pretend like you aren't here." "Wait, how often do you come here?" Jordan asks, although I can't see his face, I can feel his gaze on me. "From the outside you don't really look like a person who likes book." "What's your favourite genre?" He asks again, while I strive to comprehend what I am reading. "Mine is supernatural and mystery."

The lady at the cashier recognized me immediately when I came in and gave me a small smile before assisting the next customer lining up in front of her. They were told to pretend that they don't know me and I'm glad that mom told them to because I don't want to grab everyone's attention and curiosity. I just want to shop and be out of the house in peace. I hurriedly went to where the fantasy books are. I've been reading mystery books for the past month and I want to try something different. I don't know why, but I'm really engrossed in reading mystery books especially when I could always figure out who the suspect is before the detective could even tell who it was in the end.

I sat beside her, and she immediately stretched her legs back out, her feet landing in my lap. "What are you reading?" She held up the book without looking away from the page. "A mystery novel. A detective in Victorian London." I caught sight of the cover. A woman in a low-cut dress leaned against a man in a top hat, their faces inches apart in the fog. The Scarlet Letter Murders. I grabbed the book from her hands. "Hey!" She sat up, reaching for it. I flipped through a few pages. My eyes landed on a passage. His mouth found the hollow of her throat as his fingers worked the laces of her corset…

It has never been my goal to impress my sister with anything I do. I scroll through the books in the library until I come to my favourite section, Mystery. I always love the thrill that comes with not knowing what's going to happen next. You can make it more interesting for yourself if you start to wonder what is happening and what will happen. I take a few glances through the books on the shelves and take a book that looks the most interesting out of all the books I saw. 'In the Woods' by Tana French.

An exchange! Today is the same as always, Mia just finishes eating and goes to the reading room after asking the housekeeper's permission, today there is Luna with her, which makes Mia very happy. From Luna's place, Mia knows that this is her third visit to the reading room because she does not like reading very much. “What genre do you like to read the most, Luna?” The girl thinks for a moment, then smiles and replies: “Detective or something” Mia is surprised because this is the first time she has heard of this genre. She didn't dare look up again for a long while. Time lost all meaning as she walked onward, her cheeks stinging, then without feeling, as hints of eventide crept in behind the melancholy December sky. I was delighted to uncover new layers beneath this prickly barista's tough exterior. "So mysteries are your favorite books? Any current authors you'd recommend?" I asked, genuinely curious to know more about her tastes. Aria's eyes lit up, clearly passionate about this topic. "Oh yes! I just finished a great atmospheric thriller by Ruth Ware. And Jean Kwok writes amazing psychological suspense." I smiled as she rattled off a whole list of mystery writers and descriptors for why she loved them. Her enthusiasm was captivating. "I may have to check out some of those. I tend toward action thrillers, but I'm open to new things," I said.

I was in the library as usual reading a book I picked from the shelf when the door suddenly opened. The devil was back! He looked at me with a smirk on his face. “Nice choice of book for someone as innocent as you”. The book was about murder. A mystery novel to help keep my mind occupied rather than dwelling on my problems. I liked romance as much as the next girl but needed something darker and more compelling. Something more relatable to the state of my life.
