NEAH Three days before the assault. The packhouse is full of warriors from four packs. Every room occupied. Every hallway buzzing with tense energy. Plans. Strategies. Weapons being sharpened. Wolves preparing for war. I can't sleep. The nightmares are back but different now. Not the car crash anymore. Now I dream of the compound. Serum wolves with blank eyes and twisted limbs. Golden light erupting from my hands and destroying everything around me. Friend and enemy alike, burning in the same fire.

Jess sat up right and once more it was pitch black, that’s when jess understood what this was. “My nightmares.” Jess whispered, her voiced echoed in the darkness, but it was as if Jess had just said the key for everything to explode. Every single one of her bad memories, jumped out of the dark, young Jess sitting with her dead mother, trying to clean her wound, hoping she will wake up if Jess just keeps pressure on it. Her Father chasing her, beating her, screaming at her. Her beast tormenting her once again. All the Jess’s, the young ones or the older ones, each one of them that cried out in pain as they were being cut, burned or beaten, each Jess that was ever told how she should just die,

Instead, the visions came. Sharp, blinding flash. My father’s voice is shouting. The old pack house is burning. A pair of hands—Karen’s mother—covered in blood that wasn’t hers. Damon is laughing in the background. The flame priestess was whispering something I couldn’t make out. The river water is swallowing the sound around me. And then darkness. I pulled myself out of the vision with a gasp, breath shaking. My palms were damp. My heartbeat felt trapped in my throat.

The visions came more frequently after that, each one more vivid than the last, each one leaving her shaken and breathless. She saw the saboteur's face—hidden in shadows, but there, familiar in a way that made her skin crawl. She saw the Devourer's prison, weakening, cracking, the ancient magic straining against the hunger that pressed against it from within. She saw a battle on the horizon, blood and fire and loss, faces she loved falling around her. She woke screaming most nights, her light blazing, her heart pounding. Theron and Rylan took turns staying with her, holding her, grounding her. They learned to read her moods, to know when a vision was coming, to pull her back before she got l

A man’s voice, Darren’s, chanting words I couldn’t understand. Her screams. I felt them all. I felt them, as if her pain were my own. The poison blurred my mind, and the visions grew stronger, merging into one unending nightmare. I saw her tied, pleading, calling for help that never came. I saw her blood spilling onto ritual symbols carved into the ground. "No!" I screamed, "this can't be happening again!"

Another: Lucien and others, fighting desperately against something I couldn't quite seem The visions tumbled in more rapidly now, overlapping and contradicting each other, showing possible futures rather than certain ones. But in every vision, one reality was consistent: fierce devastation was coming. "My child, you must pull back, right now!" Her hands clamped onto my shoulders, her energy flowing into me as she tried to ground my consciousness. " Your mind can't cope with this!" But I could not pull away. The visions had barbs in my brain, dragging me farther into the horror of what was to be. I saw destruction.

Immediate. “Violence,” I said. “Blood. Something we aren’t prepared for.” Color drained from her face, and I regretted opening my mouth. “The coronation?” she asked. “I don’t know. The visions are open to interpretation.” “That’s not comforting.” “I know.” I kissed her forehead. “I’ll figure it out.” She looked like she wanted to argue, then pulled me closer instead. We lay tangled together. She fell asleep. I did not. I stared at the ceiling as the vision replayed behind my eyes. White light. Screams. Blood. The white wolf with silver eyes.

POV Sammy I let what Cash's friend and Locke had told us sink in. If they were telling the truth, Kitty was in more danger than we thought. This trip was only going to take a couple of days. Luckily, the Vampires had a road system cleared the entire way down since they had been clearing roads since the start of the Nightmare. They used them to find humans that wanted to be turned. I realized that they were probably taking some humans to feed off of since we all needed blood but I didn't want to think about that part. I couldn't.

All I wanted was vengeance—revenge on the monsters who had destroyed my family. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my cheek, jolting me back to reality. "Shadrach!" Wynter’s firm voice broke through the haze as she grabbed my face, giving me a strong shake. Her eyes searched mine, filled with a mix of fear and sympathy. Thats when I realized she had to slap me to pull me out of my thoughts. I blinked rapidly, realizing the terrible truth: I had been hallucinating. Their bodies—the ones I had just seen sprawled across the floor—evaporated, leaving me alone in the quiet house.
