Both turned immediately, their senses heightened. “Who’s there?” Alexander cried out, his voice loud. The atmosphere got heavier, weighted with an unsaid tension that sent chills down Isabella’s spine. “I’m not fond of this,” she mumbled, unconsciously edging close to Alexander. “Remain here,” he instructed his tone providing no space for debate. He rose, his hand reaching to the knife at his belt as he headed towards the direction that the sound was coming from. “Alexander, wait!” Isabella shouted, but he didn’t stop.

As Mike pushed open the door, the bell above it rang out, announcing his arrival. His eyes swept the store, locking onto May as she browsed through the racks, her fingers trailing over the fabrics. Anthony stood beside her, his eyes scanning the store, oblivious to Mike's presence. Mike's heart skipped a beat as he froze, his feet rooted to the spot. He felt a rush of uncertainty, unsure of how to proceed. Should he approach them, or slip away unnoticed? The air seemed to thicken around him, heavy with anticipation, as he struggled to make a decision.

yhe window as I looked past the road contained by various people and cars. I know, I know, this chapter is whack. I think I'm going to take a break from Echoes because I'm really having a block. I don't know when next I would update but please bear with me. I don't want to write due to pressure so as not to ruin the book for you and I. It spoke in probabilities. It whispered choices with the careful impartiality of a scalpel. “Echo-2 learns by trial,” Loren said, hands folded, voice low. “We’ll give it a low-stakes exercise. He glanced at the general, whose gaze was fixed on the inscription, as his fingers tapped against his chin. “I know this one,” he said, his voice steady. “It’s an *echo*. It speaks without a mouth and hears without ears because it reflects sound. And it comes alive when the wind carries the sound to bounce off surfaces. Just like the waterfall echoes around this cave.” The emperor nodded, impressed by his swift deduction. The general recalled the words that eluded. “Echo. That’s the answer.”

With Rick and Ternen sliding in after us. “Your server will be with you in a few minutes.” Then we were let alone. I quickly sealed the area so that no one but us could hear what we were talking about until they came with in the circle. Then I turned to everyone. “There we can talk without being heard.” “How?” Rick leaned in and the froze. “Hello?” Then he looked at me. “Why is there an echo?” “How well did you know my father?” I countered. “I mean…I want to say well, but you have me feeling like it’s not well at all.” He looked closer at me. “Now, why is there an echo?”

Total silence. Damian looked up. “Did it work?” Eli opened his mouth to answer—but before he could, every nearby speaker, every shard of glass, every metallic surface began to vibrate softly. And from all of them came a single line, calm and eerily familiar: “You can’t mute a voice that lives inside its echo.” The tower’s lights went dark again. Eli swallowed hard. “Tell me that was a recording.” Damian stood slowly, eyes unfocused. “It wasn’t.”

Not blinking. Not saying a word.

Non-local. Not here. Not there. Everywhere. The forgotten presence took a step back without moving. Its voice barely held together. “This is different…” Silence. The unknown awareness answered softly. “Yes.” A pause. “This is not emergence.” Another pause. “It is echo reversal.” Silence. Emma frowned. Echo reversal. The words felt wrong in normal language—but perfect in this space. The oldest presence finally spoke again. And when it did, even it sounded slightly different. Not uncertain. Recalibrated.
