My shoulders sagged and I growled softly in mortification. "I know nothing about love, Arram. I've been alone for centuries. How does one woo someone," I questioned him curiously and he snapped his fingers and handed me a stack of books. He told me to read them. I looked at the spines for titles, Romeo and Juliet, Wuthering Heights and The Notebook.

I leaned in a fraction of an inch, a teasing glint in my eyes, "I prefer classic literature. Russian realism, psychological thrillers. Dostoyevsky, Fitzgerald, Hemingway. I like substance." "Substance?!" Ruby mocked, completely offended. "Are you implying my romance novels don't have substance? Excuse you, but enemies-to-lovers tropes require intense psychological maneuvering! The angst! The tension! It's art, Alexander. Your little Russian thrillers have nothing on a slow-burn romance."

He started to help her unpack her books, glancing at the spines as they started to shelve them in a tiny bookshelf that wouldn’t hold even half of her collection. Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë, Elizabeth Gaskell, John Keats, Shakespeare, Virginia Woolf, Charles Dickens—so many books, most of which had clearly been read over and over again. Some were falling apart, barely glued together. When he took out a copy of Frankenstein, the cover fell off entirely. “Oh, poor guy. This one has been through a lot.” Rose took the book from him, smiling. That smile burst something inside him. Something hot, something dangerous. Something that felt exactly like longing. “The novel’s title is Shocking Shocked, and it tells the story of a guy who was electrocuted after disclosing shocking news?” I bit the bottom of my lip. “Well... It’s one of my favorite novels.” She slapped herself across the forehead. “Dainty! We should not read novels like these. I assumed you were interested in romantic novels, so I let you read books, and then I’ll know that you’re reading about terror and murder novels?!” My mouth was closed. What can I do if I’m not a fan of romance novels? Horror, mystery, and psychological stories are my favorite, and not romance. When I read a romantic novel, my whole body convulses. They simply do not appeal to me.

With a deep breath, I turned the first page of the romance novel, eager to immerse myself in its tender tale. The story unfolded like a delicate dance, a waltz of whispered promises and stolen glances. Each word painted a vivid picture in my mind, transporting me to a realm where love bloomed like flowers in spring. With every chapter, I found myself drawn deeper into the lives of the characters, their emotions becoming entwined with my own.

Her appearance was simple, just a light blue dress without many accessories—different from her usual cold, elegant demeanor. “Am I disturbing you?” Isabelle asked. “Not at all. Come in.” Isabelle stepped inside and sat on the chair opposite Liora. She opened the cloth bag and pulled out several thick books with pastel-colored covers. Their titles were clear—all romantic novels. “I brought these for you,” Isabelle said, arranging them on the small table between them. “I remember you said you’ve had trouble sleeping lately. Light reading might help.” “Thank you. I didn’t expect you to go out of your way.”

With each stroke, her hips moved in sync with my touch, craving more of the pleasure I was offering. Her fingers tangled in my hair as she arched her back, surrendering to the sensations that consumed her. Her gasps grew louder, mingling with the rhythm of our bodies moving in unison. The room filled with the intoxicating scent of our desire, a heady mix of sweat and passion. Our hearts beat in harmony, a symphony of love and lust that echoed through the air. With her, nothing else mattered. I was lost with her, and so was she.

I needed to cut her off. "Look, they're doing the walking around the fire thing." She said. I hummed non committal. "I read about it in this book by Drethi Anis. Five thousand nights of obsession. The book was so good." "You read?" I asked. I had never seen any book in her apartment or caught her with a book. "Yes." She blushed, then quietly. "Romance books." "You don't strike me as the romance type." I looked at her intently. "Is it one of those raunchy books with shirtless men carrying scabbards on the cover."

I asked, looking down at her. “Yes wait no. I mean no.” Elena answered, shaking her head rapidly looking back up for a few seconds then back down folding the clothes. “Alright then.” I said leaving the topic at that and started to pick up the books and place them in the box. She had a lot of books. Mostly books about romance and a few about dark romance.There were also a few school books about biology, astrophysics, chemistry, physics and engineering etcetera. “Miss Romano.” Elena called out.
