I stated as gently as I could. “I prayed so hard,” she murmured into my chest, “I begged the moon goddess to bring you back.” We hugged for a couple of seconds. I wanted her to know I was here and it was okay. “It worked,” I whispered into her hair, “whatever you did… it worked.” After a few more, I felt something collide into my leg. I pulled out of the hug and looked down to see one of the little pups. "Alpha is back," he said with a smile on his face and I heard the pack clapping. I looked around to see everyone—relieved, happy even.

Robin listened intently, captivated by Alpha Leori's words. He had always admired his alpha's ability to see the bigger picture, to think beyond immediate challenges and focus on long-term solutions. "During those dark days," Alpha Leori continued, his voice filled with nostalgia, "I witnessed the true strength and potential of our pack members. They rose to the occasion, exhibiting resilience, ingenuity, and compassion. It was their unwavering commitment to our shared future that drove me forward."

The darkness signified his status in the world, an Alpha and that was the last thing I needed. “This is Willow.” The manager is smiling from ear to ear as she introduces me. I whimpered. “Shh,” he murmured, voice rough but surprisingly gentle. “It’ll go down soon. Just breathe through it.” His hand stroked down my side, soothing. Like he was calming a frightened animal. Maybe that’s what I was to him right now. I turned my head as much as I could. “What… what are you?” He went still. For a long moment, the only sound was our breathing and the distant hum of the city outside the heavy curtains. “I’m Kael Draven,” he finally said. “Alpha of the Obsidian Pack.”

“No pressure, then.” Corvin arched a brow. “You’re already under it. You just keep pretending you’re not.” Silence stretched between us, heavy with things I didn’t want named. “What happens,” I asked finally, “if the Alpha rejects the bond?” Corvin didn’t answer right away. He stared into his mug, jaw tightening. “Then the fire looks elsewhere,” he said. “And gods help anyone standing in its path.” My wolf snarled uneasily. I stood, heart pounding. “You’re saying she’s dangerous.”

His body was being broken down into raw data. "He’s the final component," Celeste said. "The Alpha needs a Beta to stabilize the reboot. You give the code, he gives the life." "Let him go." "I can't." She raised the rifle. "The Ledger requires a balanced trade." I looked at Caleb. Then I looked at the obsidian tablet in my hand. I didn't aim for Celeste. I aimed for the pylon. "What are you doing?" she screamed. "I'm liquidating the company."

The obsidian-and-gold nebula in her eyes was spinning in perfect synchronization with the throne on the screen. "The child is the bridge, Silas," the voice of Julian crackled over the comms. He was still alive, perched somewhere in the wreckage of the South Spire. "The Alpha and the Weapon have produced the Correction. You don't need Dante anymore. You have the Heir." "Julian, you traitorous snake!" I roared, slamming my fist into the console. The screen flickered with platinum sparks.
