Marked From Birth
Seventy years later
An old woman sits in a rocking chair, her hair as white as the snow on the Iron Ridge. Her hands are wrinkled, the silver scars now lost in the folds of aged skin. Beside her, an old man with one arm and a mischievous glint in his grey eyes is peeling an apple with a silver-handled knife.
"Do you think they remember?" the man asks, handing her a slice of the fruit.
"The children?" the woman asks. "The children only know the world where everyone is equal, Lucas. They think the stories of the 'Obsidian Servants' and 'Silver Gods' are just fairy tales we made up to make them eat their vegetables."
