“I’m going to raid your cupboards. I’m hoping for syrup.” Darien stayed sitting as he wouldn’t be any help. He didn’t know what was in his kitchen cupboards. Hopefully Linda would have stocked them up with the right things. Zach cried out triumphantly at the second cupboard he opened and waved a bottle of golden syrup in the air. He returned to the fridge and Darien heard a lot of rustling. “Do you like blueberries?” Zach asked. “They’re fine,” Darien replied. For dessert Zach produced croffles topped with blueberries, syrup and shards of dark chocolate. Darien wasted a few seconds taking a photo on his phone before digging in. It was as delicious as it looked.

He returned to the fridge, pulling out a container and when he opened the lid it was full of dark chocolate pudding. I stared at him genuinely surprised that this angry man had a sweet tooth— of course he choice of coffee was a dead give away but still. "You eat chocolate pudding? At midnight?" And he just glanced at me.. "The cocoa percentage is eighty-seven. It's not 'pudding.' It's a controlled delivery system for flavonoids and magnesium, which aid cognitive function." I just raised my eyebrow at him watching him lie to himself and I couldn’t help it. I let out a hearty laugh.
