The One
I cannot see them from where I stand now, but I know they are out there, waiting and watching, ready to strike the instant they’re all back on their feet.
But I can see none of what they have planned. The moment Akin disappeared into the dark shadows, my Sight disappeared with him. I press my fingertips hard into my temples, digging into the space between bone and skin as though pressure alone could restore the Sight that has always been my guide. My breath is shallow. The world swims behind my eyes, but not with vision, only fatigue, frustration, and the spinning dread of helplessness.
