On the Origin of Humanity

On the Origin of Humanity

He jumped to the table's edge, expanded his mouth, and cawed hysterically once again. The book was thrown across the room by Peter. The crow took to the skies after being cut by the book, soaring back into the bathroom and out an open window, vanishing into the night. Both Peter and I were exhaling heavily. He turned to look at me as I leaned against the desk, slumped down, trying to calm my beating heart.

Summer Wine

Summer Wine

"Then they throw the original hatchlings out one by one, stealing the entire home for themselves." "Smart girl..." Matteo murmured, his large fingers slowly clamping around my jaw, rubbing his thumb over my full, swollen lips. A sudden wave of intense fascination rippled through his gaze. "Tell me then... while the Cuckoo bird is busy occupying the nest, what do the pretty, innocent little doves do?" I swallowed hard. The friction of his thumb against my lips was already sending a twitch of electric wetness right back into my core. "They sit quietly... waiting for someone to toss them a few breadcrumbs..." I whispered.

The Cuckoo's Egg

The Cuckoo's Egg

In the videos, Joey grumbled under his breath about how cold the coffin was, all while being wrapped in a warm blanket, fed food by his parents, and even given affection by Winnie, who had snuck in while no one was there. The scene was disgraceful, to say the least. "You set me up?" Joey asked incredulously. He'd endured lying there in the coffin for three days straight because he could see the light at the end of the road, that his dreams of living a carefree life abroad were going to be a reality. He thought his plan was flawless, but I'd recorded it all and broadcast it for everyone to see. "Why can't I scheme against you when you did it to me first?" I said, laughing at the top of my lun

When Arrows Fly

When Arrows Fly

I narrowed my eyes and sigh. “The curious cuckoo cupid downstairs–it’s most uncommon for creatures to draw so near and bother you, don’t you think…” Aeon’s voice trailed off as he tap his hand on his chin, looking like he was deep in thought. “What do you mean? What has this got to do with that stupid cupid?” I pushed the scroll back and take the book that has gold linings from his desk. Whoa! The author exerted much efforon making this book, but haven’t thought much about giving it a proper title.

The Tyrant alpha

I say. “But you can feel that I won’t hurt you, right? I didn’t ever want to hurt you. Or frighten you. I’m sorry that I did. I—I was rough, and—I didn’t understand that—” He’s talking about the nest beside the river. No, no, no. I don’t want to talk about that. Not with him. Not ever. “I’ve never heard of any of these before,” I interrupt, scooting over to the apple crate and picking up the book with the sun on the cover. I thumb through the pages. “What are they about?”

Nanny For The Alpha's Lost Twins

Chloe asked. “Of course,” Zane said then reached into what I had thought was an emptied picnic basket to pull out the book in question. I took it with a laugh and opened it up. “One day the Emperor received a large parcel, in which was written ‘The Nightingale.” “‘There we have a new book about this celebrated bird,’ said the Emperor.

The Billionaire's Possession

The Billionaire's Possession

He flipped open the book she had just read, which was no longer a boring and tasteless medical book, but a comic book written by Jimmy. Blake was naturally not interested in these childish things, but he continued to flip through them one by one, rubbing his fingers on the pages as if Avery's body temperature and smell were still there. When the book reached the last page, the title page was filled with a short poem: "We watch fish love birds, cats love mice, dinosaurs and frogs, princesses, and princesses, we see meteors fly past, we watch trees bloom, and I cannot wait for you to fall in love with my miracle!"

SECRET OBSESSION

SECRET OBSESSION

The little goblin stood this way, the book held tightly in her hands, her lips moving silently. "Well?" Mike asked after nearly a minute had passed. "Tink doesn't remember." Shoulders slumping, Tink handed the book to Mike. "Maybe husband figure out?" "We'll see." Opening the book, he was surprised to see the words swim across the page, the text fixing itself in place before his eyes. Expecting some profound piece of magic, he realized he was looking at a fairly simple recipe for peanut butter cookies. Flipping back and forth, he saw that the recipe was the same on every page.

The Day She Stopped Waiting

The Day She Stopped Waiting

A long scraping sound dragged across the wood. Like claws. Everyone froze. Then came the voice. Soft. Cold. Dangerous. "You cannot stop it." Cookie growled. Louder than before. The tiny puppy stood directly in front of the door. Fur raised. Teeth exposed. Then all five puppies joined him. A tiny army. Against whatever waited outside. Then suddenly— the journal flipped pages again. Violently. The paper fluttered. The cover slammed open. Then stopped. Another message appeared. Fresh ink. New words.

10 chapters in and I hope it’s second chance book. I love a good “leaving my shitty husband for a better man” plot but sometimes I love a good “I need to get my wife back” plot as well. Sometimes I want to read about how a relationship was pulled back from the brink and I feel this is goi to be it.

The Eternal Forest: Her Alpha

The Eternal Forest: Her Alpha

*Thunk* a book collided with my head nearly knocking me out of the tree I was perched in. I grabbed onto a branch, shaking the changing leaves loose. A flurry of red swirled around me then fell back to earth. "Thanks," I muttered sarcastically as my beloved owl Gera, landed on the branch beside me. I rubbed the lump on my head absently, and she puffed up her snowy white feathers with a look that told me I should be grateful for what I got. I opened the book and smelled the lovely old book scent. The human library perfectly cultivated this one-of-a-kind aroma.
