Cycle of Cliches
He would say, “Your mother-tongues are your boats, and this language – English – is the oar. To sail through the river of your dreams, you’ll need both. The boat,as well as the oar.”
Sometimes he would add, “Respect and love English as much as you love the language you were born to. When you grow up, it is this love and respect that will pay up. It is this language which will help you break the bars that society has thrust upon you – of poverty, disrespect and servitude.”
