I keep away from the pools of light under the street lamps, but it seems an unnecessary precaution, since the figure ahead of me never looks back. We reach the end of our neighborhood, and five-store shabby buildings replace the neat private houses and clean lawns. I don’t like this part of the town. It’s nasty enough during the day, let alone at night. There’s a bowling place nearby that I’ve been to with my pals, but apart from that, there’s nothing but the cheapest and the oldest houses, and a few sleazy motels renting by the hour. There’s a large park, too, proudly called The Central Park, but it’s mostly frequented by drug dealers and prostitutes rather than by joggers.

I answered down from all of them. The more power is accessible, the more they discover their accuracy for noise is more than importance. All kinds of random things were tucked between the pages. Movie-ticket stubs from outings with Mason, the gold leaf-shaped bookmark he'd given me, and the notebook where he'd collected my mistakes from old tests. I turned to the newest page and had just pressed my pen to the paper when someone knocked. Three long knocks and one short. No one else in the world knocked in Mason's rhythm.

"We've made several copies already. Enough, in fact, to fill countless bookshelves." I took the paper, its texture rough and earthy, a stark contrast to the pristine, polished sheets I was accustomed to seeing in the capital or at Brightwing Academy. It was the color of rich, dark soil, as if steeped in mud or coffee, a testament to its humble origins. Yet, despite its unassuming appearance, the paper was surprisingly durable. Anything written upon it remained clear and legible, a testament to its practicality.

Everyone seemed to want to experience this beautiful day in one way or another. Their little town doesn't look much different than a small human town. It sits in the heart of their pack, with homes surrounding it on the north, south and east side. The west side of town opens up to the park and pack house which is where Aiden is coming from. In town there are several paved roads with little shops along them. Aiden loves the little shops in town. There are two coffee shops, one at each end of town. There's a little bakery just next to Michael's furniture store. Michael makes all of the furniture in his shop by hand. He cuts down the trees himself and makes some of the most beautiful furniture
