Its bottom half was that of a wolf, but the top half, the arms and chest, was human. The human head sat on a spike next to the body, only it had large fangs poking out of its open mouth. It was gross, sad, and scary. It made me want to cry again. I closed my eyes tight and tried to shake my head.

The smoke from the blasted gate hadn’t even fully cleared before the first rogue lunged. It was a renegade wolf from the Shattered Alliance, already half-shifted into a grotesque, asymmetrical bipedal beast. His eyes burned with an unstable, drug-fueled red, foam dripping from a jaw filled with mismatched, jagged teeth. He carried the rancid, biting scent of a packless outcast—a smell that made Astrid’s inner wolf recoil in pure disgust before rising up to unleash its own blinding fury.

Nudity to wolves should have been second nature. It was strange to her to see wolves from a different pack.
