Later that day** It was 8 pm, and my bedtime was 9 pm, while I knew Maximilian's bedtime was around midnight. If I had slept before then, I could say that his bedtime was way too late for me. By then, he wouldn't know anything. He could even forget about the absurd promise I made. With that thought, I headed to the bathroom and did my skincare routine, brushed, and took a wet shower. Then I went to my bed and tucked myself in. An unknown fact about me as I preferred to sleep naked.

The past is not something I love to remember but the future also seems to hold more fights for me. "I am a sorry story " I tell myself and try to go back to sleep. A light shines in her groggy sleepy eyes. “I know you’re a very good person and whatever you did in the past must be justified. It's past bedtime.” I helped her to her feet leading her up the stairs and the confines of her bedroom. Tucked her in bed switched off the light while returning to the kitchen. I know tomorrow she must have forgotten we had this discussion and I’ll never speak of it again.

Time for "old faithful." I pulled out some scriptures Ruthie, my best friend, gave me. I had a bookmark in Genesis Four. That's where I'd stopped the last time I needed help falling asleep. Yes, I was a scripture-reading teenager. However, my motivation wasn't to get all spiritual - it was to get so bored, I would fall asleep. It was a tip from Ruthie - whose parents were super righteous. Ruthie called the scriptures her insomnia cure - a biblical miracle! Ha! Fortunately, it worked for me, too. I cracked the book open to Genesis Four.

"I'll just leave it to the future me." I went back to the living room with my phone and watched my favorite show. It didn't take long until I felt sleepy and decided to go to my room after brushing up. I wonder why Lean's not back yet? It's almost 11 o'clock. Maybe they're having a celebration after their hectic schedules? I don't know, I'll just go to sleep. "Ion! Wake up!"

I bite my lip, it's almost bleeding because of my never ending nibbling. I can't sleep, I stay awake as I watch the time hit 10:pm. I just need to get out of here tonight and nothing is stopping me. I get off my bed and hurry to my door as I lock it. What's gonna be the worst punishment he's gonna give me if he doesn't see me in his room.

Davina lamented. “Are you a grown-up? The answer is No! You are still a child and sleeping early would help your brain’s activities.” I responded. I tucked them in successfully and turned off the light after reading a short bedtime story of Mama Bear and Baby Bear. Striding carefully out of the room I closed the door gently behind me. “Is there anything you want me to do for you before retiring for the day?” Nana Amy asked. “No, you can leave now. When I woke up, I was lying in a hospital bed. My throat was burning as if I had swallowed shards of glass. The room was empty except for a nurse. The moment she saw me awake, she hurried off to find the doctor for an examination. For the next week, I didn't see Zeke at all. However, my plans to leave had to be put on hold because of my condition. The day I felt slightly better, Zeke finally called. "Still alive? Told you a little rain wouldn't kill you. Tomorrow's my birthday. Make sure you show up. It's not me who wants you there—it's Brooke."
