"No, I'm sorry," I say, looking towards Luna Katie. Both seem entirely devastated from having their pup kidnapped. Both have bags under their eyes, and both look weak. Luna Katie seems younger than Alpha Layne, who looks to be in his mid to late forties. "Is Mark your only pup," I ask, studying the two wolves in front of me. Luna Katie can't be more than thirty.

Patricia whispered, bowing her head. Layla chimed in, her eyes red. "Please, Daddy. She’s so pitiful. What if she really goes?" I surrendered. I sent the kids back to their classes and drove Shea and Patricia to the hospital myself. "Do you have your pack ID, Shea?" She shook her head. "Do you know the number?" "Shea doesn't have an ID, Mr. Parker," Patricia answered for her. I was floored. In Mysticfall, everyone had an ID—even the stray pups in the shelters.
