Pay Attention To Me Novels & Stories

Everyone knew me for my mantra, from the board members down to the security guards at the gate. Focus. Be in the moment. Those words had slipped from my lips countless times. "I need to attend to something that's stealing my attention from this room." I picked up my phone and tablet and walked out. They all turned in their seats as I made my way to the door and disappeared out of the room.

"Your eyes are closed." "The bond," he said. "It feels different when you're watching something." "What does it feel like?" I asked. He was quiet for a moment, still not opening his eyes, his arm still around me. "Like attention," he said. "The specific quality of attention you give things you are deciding something about." "I wasn't deciding anything," I said. "What were you doing?" he said. I thought about how to say it. "Looking," I said. "Just looking."

I know this is a line you must have heard a thousand times, but I’ll say them any ways. Whenever we bump into each other, I always wish I have enough courage to speak to you but I get stuck with this thought In my head . "how can I compete with all of them? Would she ever give me a chance?” The sight of you today was breathtaking, seeing you smile always is dreams come true for me. I love the way that your eyes sparkle whenever I look at them, the way your lips slide up a bit whenever you are about to say something funny, the way you take charge, and even the way you study in your private time.

I said. "What am I doing?" "You're paying attention. You're remembering. You're showing up. You're being here when I don't expect you and when I do expect you and all the times in between." He was quiet. He was listening. "You want me to notice," I said. "You want me to see that you're doing these things. That's why you're not subtle anymore. You want me to know." "Yes." I looked at him. He looked at me. "I notice," I said.

Does my presence affect you that much? I stopped halfway, giving him a crossed look and a disdainful smile. "To affect me that much," I stressed, "your presence would have to affect me at least a little, which it doesn't. I just don't usually pay attention to the things that affect me. I just don't usually pay attention to what doesn't add up to me," I smiled cynically as he looked at me with a mocking frown, and I walked back to the kitchen without looking back.

I didn’t look at him immediately. “I’m his mother.” “That’s not what I meant.” I turned slowly. “Then what did you mean?” “I mean you pay attention,” he said. “You notice the small things. You correct him without making him feel wrong.” Something about the way he said it, careful, observant. It made my chest tighten again. “You notice a lot,” I said. “I told you. I’m paying attention.” “To everything?” “To what matters.” The words settled deeper than they should have.

I grit out. He chuckles lightly. “You can try it” I turned to him. “Are you here to receive lectures or stare at me?!” “I’m here to give you all my attention!” “Stop staring at me!!” I turned away from him. * * * I didn’t know it hard trying to listen when you know someone is beside you watching you closely, studing your every move. This is too much; I raised my hand and called for the lady’s attention. “Yes, Luna!” she answered me.

She turns off the television. Her gaze now fixed on me. Nadia’s smile widens, like she knows she’s won some small battle of attention, but I don’t care. My mind is still filled with images of him. ################

"Do you hate attention?" "Kinda," I said, trying to focus solely on him. "You're going to get me talked about." "You're already going to get talked about." He said it lightly, like it was a joke, but something in his expression made me pause. "Text me when you're out." I watched him pull away before turning toward the steps. The second I did, I felt it. Dozens of eyes glanced at me, then quickly looked away whenever I caught them. Nobody said anything.

I am here for a singular purpose, and I must focus on it. “Okay, Annatoria,” I said to myself as I reached for a notepad and pen. “Focus.” My feet started to move. “Do not lose guard.”
