“I saw this and thought of you.” I open it and find a small charm made of amber glass in the circular shape of a dragon biting its tail. It is both beautiful and terrifying, with a tiny red gem sparkling in its eye. “Do you like it?” he asks, uncertain. “It’s lovely,” I respond as I twirl it in the sunlight. “Open the box.” I lifted the lid. Nestled in a bed of soft green velvet was a pendant in the shape of a small glass dragon. Inside, there was some sort of glowing amber material that shimmered and caught the light, moving as if it had a life of its own. It was stunning. I raised my eyes to meet Rowena’s, aware that mine were filling with tears.

It made me want him all the more. I hooked my fingers into the silver chain that he wore around his throat. No longer did he wear a binding symbol. Now it was just a simple charm. I nodded as I looked down at the tiny box in my hand. I opened the lid, and a gold ring formed into the shape of a dragon staring back at me. An orange stone that looked to have fire frozen within it formed the eyes. Its wings were flat against its body, and its legs sat as though they were wrapped around a tree, its tail spiraling downwards too.
