Chapter One The notification goes live at 12:03 a.m. Most people don’t notice it right away. Midnight notifications are easy to ignore—another bored scroll, another face glowing in the dark. But for the ones who do click, the screen opens to something oddly quiet. No music. No filter. No bright smile. Just Lila Monroe, framed too close, her face pale in the bluish light of her phone. The familiar background of her bedroom looks different tonight—messier, shadows stretching too long across the walls. Her hair is pulled back like she’s been running her hands through it too many times.

I shook my head, too confused to speak. “Because the last time a lunar eclipse appeared here, something extraordinary happened. A bond formed between two wolves, marked by the moon herself. We call it "Midnight's Mark". It has not appeared in one hundred and twenty-three years. Most think it’s legend, but I saw it when I was young.” My mouth felt dry. “What kind of bond?” “The truest kind, a mate bond chosen by the Moon Goddess herself, marked on the skin at the eclipse’s peak. Those who bear it are destined for each other, their souls matched perfectly. Such bonds appear only when the pack needs them most.”

Mira says unfazed. "Ten million." Someone says at the next table, doubling the price like it was pocket change. "Thirteen million." Says Mr.DeLuca. "Fifteen million." A woman says at the table behind us. "Great, Petuina is in the game," Grace says as she smiles lifts her glass, and takes a sip. "Seventeen million." Comes again from Mr.DeLuca, he wanted that peace for sure now the question was did Petunia want it more?

Not expecting to see her browsing up the prizes for each flower and the numbers I was seeing were just unbelievable. One is called a Juliet Rose, widely known for its distinctive full-cupped shape and beautiful apricot petals. What is even crazier is that it took fifteen years to cultivate. The others were tulips, exotic orchids, lilies, and moonflowers. “Damn! These are all hell expensive. This one is no ordinary stalker, Cara.” Nancy muttered, still in sheer disbelief as she lowered her phone. It feels like my headache just had gone worst. “Obviously.” I wanted to throw it away, but seeing the prizes made me think otherwise.

I don’t really care about that, I just want to find my Luna and hold her in my arms. My wolf, Midnight keeps jumping around in circles in my mind. “Where’s Luna, where’s my Luna he asks?” “I don’t see her nor smell her yet and she never responded to my text, Midnight” I tell him. “Oh well, let me have some fun,” said Midnight as he jumps to the front of my mind and takes over my body. He walks us over to the table with a spread of different moonshines, grabs a paper cup and pours. He slams the first drink and pours another. I can feel him giddy and excited to be at this mating party.

The package inside was not even opened. Letitia unwrapped one and took out the white inhibitor inside, "Do you want to do it yourself or should I help you?"

Lynne asked, she was confused for no gunshot echoed through the air "No, I didn't, I just pinch his neck where the vein to the brain is, He's paralyzed for few minutes." Midnight replied shrugging her shoulders while Lynne stood up slowly still dizzy from the recent events. "if you're here to save me just to rub it on my face, don't you dare I'll kill you." Lynne growled, "If you're waiting for an apology, you won't get one." Lynne finished, Midnight rolled her eyes "I'm not here for any of those things." Midnight admitted as she crouched down on the thug's body and began searching his pockets

"But I suppose a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do to survive in this world. Come over here, look at these." She walked toward the very end of the long wooden table where a cluster of rare, deep purple flowers sat. They were tightly closed, looking almost like dark, heavy fists. "Look at these. These are the midnight orchids. I've been trying to get them to open up for three long years. Stubborn little bastards. They just sit there, dark and freezing cold, completely locked up." I walked over and stood right beside her, setting my empty mug down on the counter. I reached my hand out, my fingers hovering just an inch above the closed petals. "They look completely dead."

“I will make Leah my Luna and my chosen mate. She knows how to cover my needs. Unlike you, god, I had never expected my mate would have been a virgin, but it was fun, wasn’t it, Laura. Still not able to find my voice, I say or do nothing. “Oh well, I, Miles Midnight, Alpha of the Midnight Pack, reject you, Laura Perl as my mate and Luna. Accept it anytime you want or when the pain of me fucking your sister gets too much. I don’t care.” He says, looking at me with cold eyes letting go of me with his hand and his command. -

“Yes, I’m counting twenty, and then all of us – I think we all made it –“ “Not all the people – I don’t care about them –“ Midnight snaps, glaring at Elias. “I’m talking about all the pieces of my house!” “I’m sure it’s all here,” Pippa says very soothingly, reaching out a hand to pat Midnight on the shoulder while Ben fights to keep his face straight, avoiding the urge to laugh. “We know how important it is to you, Midnight – we’ve all been very careful to make sure we got it all.” Midnight growls and flashes her teeth at Pippa, not trusting her. Not yet.
