On the Thirty-Third Try
"Lorenzo, I'm running out of time. You don't need to stage some tragic love act. You and Sofia? Same type. You love her. Me? I was just some obligation choking you. You couldn't choose, so I did. I told Elisa. She's letting you go. You're free. All the way free."
Something snapped.
He let out this raw, broken noise, dropped to his knees, grabbed my hand like it could anchor him.
"I'm sorry... Chiara, I'm so sorry... I was wrong, I swear I won't see her again! Let's start over. I'll give you thirty-three weddings, in every place we made memories—please, don't go... don't leave me..."
His eyes were swollen, desperate, full of regret.
All I felt was tired. The whole thing was just... absurd.
