Melanie said hesitantly, wondering if she should be worried. Lydia nodded in approval and dragged her into a gardening store. "You want to get him... a pear tree?" Melanie asked doubtfully. Lydia hummed. "It was in a song I was listening to earlier," Lydia began. "On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me, a Partridge in a pear tree!" "Does that mean I have to get him a Partridge too?" Melanie asked. "You don't have to," Lydia shrugged. "The rest are all people and birds," she paused. "And gold rings."

He nodded eagerly, his excitement undiminished. The living room became our temporary sanctuary, a space where we waited, a family united, for the arrival of midnight. The countdown, a collective breath held until the stroke of twelve, was a shared moment of anticipation and joy. "Merry Christmas!" The joyous exclamation echoed through the room, a chorus of greetings and well-wishes. Gifts were exchanged, a flurry of colorful wrapping paper and excited squeals. Marco, overwhelmed by the bounty of presents, was a picture of pure delight, his laughter infectious.

Our cabin didn’t wanna feel left out so we also decorated it a few days ago, but ours couldn’t compare to the locals’ decorations. I passed by the parish church and saw some practicing their Christmas songs, most of them clad in red patterned sweaters and jackets, as well as red pointed hats with white circular puffs at the top. The solitude this small town brings me is what I’ve always wanted for my family. I can only hope this lasts. I puffed another breath of winter air as I pushed the store’s glass door. “Good afternoon,” the store cashier politely greeted as the bell chimed.

Angel POV. "You need to be dressed by now, I sent Daddy here twenty minutes ago," Papa says coming toward my room where I've been hiding, I love my red onesie and I don't want to take it off yet, why won't they just take me like that.

and they all joined in. Brady went back to Noelle, who was singing with a smile on her face. She took his hand, and he sang along, looking around at the crowd of happy faces. When the song was over, someone started another one, “Deck the Halls.” Brady had the idea they might all stand there and sing Christmas carols for hours to come. That would be fine with him, as long as Noelle’s hand was in his. “Merry Christmas, Noelle Snow,” he said into her hair near her ear.

Lory said softly, a smile spreading across her face. “You’re right, Lory,” I replied, my heart warming as I looked at our family together. The atmosphere was cozy, filled with laughter, whispers, and the soft hum of excitement. The clock struck twelve, and the kids erupted in joyful cheers. “Merry Christmas!” we all shouted together, our voices blending into a chorus of love and celebration. We gathered around the Christmas tree, beautifully adorned with ornaments we had collected over the years, each one holding a memory, a story of our family’s journey.

I still have half an hour until midnight. And I think I know just the thing." In just a few moments, the twins were squealing excitedly and laughing delightedly at the gigantic black "puppy" that was willing to play, romp and give them piggyback rides. Finally, all the twins' wishes for Christmas were now complete. Merry Christmas, dear reader… See you this New Year!

By the seventeenth day of December, Christmas has taken over the town. Soon red and white are the only two colours the world knows—how it always happens this time each year. Plastic hollies and mistletoes hang from porches of family houses and schools gates, churches and banks. A cherry sun hangs from a lucid mistless sky. Red and white, too. Perhaps that is all Christmas is: Red and white.

"Daddy, why are you crying?" My trembling gaze lifted. Only then did I realize my face was already covered in tears. I was overwhelmed with guilt and heartbreak toward Noelle. Perhaps I also felt hatred for Ivana. However, right now, I had to stay cheerful and accompany Noelle through the last moments of her life. I turned off my phone screen, wiped away my tears, and said, "Sweetheart, I'm just too happy. Tonight is Christmas Eve, and you will be safe and sound." Less than half a minute later, Ivana finally called me back.
