Pain shot through my scalp, causing me to wince and jerk upright.
Using my finger, I pressed down on the tip of the braids to soothe out the pain. I didn’t know what I was thinking, dropping my head like that—I wasn’t thinking. Even with the efforts of my soft pillows, sleeping with braids feels uncomfortable during the first few days.
Realizing I might die of boredom, I turned to Ben, reaching to lift his headphones from his head. He startled, looking alarmed when I dropped the headphones on his neck.
Seeing it was me, he relaxed, his gaze filled with questions.
