I shoved the door open, expecting the silence of an empty suite, but I was met with the sight of Liam sitting on the edge of the mahogany table, tossing a hockey puck up and down. Liam had been my best friend since we were in kindergarten. We’d learned to shift together, learned to hunt together, and survived the brutal politics of the Moonstone social scene together. He was the only person who could look at me and know exactly how close I was to losing my mind. “You look like hell, Gid,” Liam said, catching the puck mid-air. He jumped off the table, his expression uncharacteristically serious. “Where have you been? The campus is losing its mind.”

POV: KAI The press box smells like musty coffee and old popcorn. I sit in the back row, laptop balanced on my knees, hoodie zipped to my chin. The collar still hides most of the mark, but I feel it every time I swallow. Like a reminder I can't delete. Game starts fast. Puck drops. The crowd roars. I type without looking down much—habit now. And then, I lunge. I tear the banner down with both hands, shred it in two. “FUCK!” Another balloon pops underfoot. Streamers fly across the room, I launch a chair against the wall. My claws rip the edges of the table, it groans as it crashes into the floor, the cake follows after.
