Xerxes asked, his voice softening slightly. “I did.” Ryker was an Asian, with long black hair and a long scar across the side of his face. He is the beta, the second in command and head of defense for the whole kingdom. “My apologies, I was not here to defend my king when the beast invaded the palace.” He gave a small bow. “Don't bother yourself, I'm almost healed. The scars are still there but that's our nature. What's a wolf without its scars?” He smiled. “You were keeping the borders safe. So tell me, what about my little assignment?”

Ruan rasped, forced back into the cold reality of the road. He stood up, swaying on his feet, and reached down to haul me up. The world tilted dangerously, the hangars and the burning remains of the jet spinning around me. I leaned into him, my arm around his waist, my head resting against his shoulder. Around us, the airstrip was a graveyard of twisted metal. The Phantoms were emerging from the smoke—shadowy figures of black leather, coughing, bleeding, but alive. "Vulture! Jax!" Ruan bellowed, his voice regaining its presidential authority even through the pain.

I turn back to look at the twins, who are directly behind me, the Jackson and Braydon are in the far back seats. “Thanks. We did most of the modification ourselves.” Ranger beams, obviously delighted to see my awe. “She is our rolling fortress. She is bullet proof and blast resistant and has everything you could possibly need to survive in a shit situation. Ooof...” Ryder huffs as Ranger elbows him in the ribs.

A few days later, news hit the pack. That night, on the top floor of Thorn Tavern, something brutal happened. Elena Vance had been torn apart by Liam— shredded, nothing left to bury. The Chief Elder fought, tried to save himself. Didn't matter. Liam ripped his throat out anyway. When Liam came back to himself— when the Rampage faded and he saw what he'd done— the blood, the pieces, the ruin— something inside him broke for good. He stumbled out of the tavern and disappeared into the wilderness.

Dawn had barely bled across the sky when Ronan’s forces slammed into the vampire lines like a hammer made of teeth and fury. The western border was a mess of muddy fields and shattered tree lines, the ground already slick with blood. He rode at the head in wolf form for the first charge, a massive black beast with silver scars cutting through his fur, roaring loud enough to shake the leaves from the dying oaks. Behind him, hundreds of werewolves howled in answer, some shifted, some still on horseback with axes and silver edged blades ready.

Round One – The Jungle Battlefield When the lights returned, the fighters were no longer in an arena. A dense jungle surrounded them. Towering trees, thick vines, and the distant screeches of unseen creatures filled the air. The ground was uneven, roots twisting beneath their feet, and the humidity clung to their skin. Moses and Joy barely had time to adjust before the buzzer rang, signaling their first opponents—House Titan. Tristan Hope cracked his knuckles, his muscles rippling beneath his uniform. “Let’s see if House Six is more than just talk.”

“I am not enough. Master, grant me strength!” In the apex moment of all three worlds - that of desperate rescue, of glutted victory, and of welcomed peace - all three are denied. A tremor shakes the jungle, radiating fiercely from some unseen point, and rippling plants and puddles surge upward as it passes. The great axe cleaves down, but splits little more than a sudden wave of leaves and vines. Both heavy fighters are left dumbfounded, staring at the tangle of overgrowth where the ranger had been a second before. It wilts and dissipates like mist.

Fran has just finished washing Enyo while Trent and I go over some work stuff when we hear the scream from the room the girls are in. Rushing through the door we find Fran bent over as water rushes down her legs as she clutches her swollen belly. Trent goes into full mate mode and scoops her up heading towards their cabin. I mind-link our nurse and Ivy to meet them there. The excitement from the other members as the word of the new pack member pending.
