The optical sensors at the tips of the barrels flared brightly, flashing away from Saed's dead, frantic red and solidifying into a crisp, lethal and unyielding Blackwood blue.
Inside the Blackwood war room, three hundred miles away, the amber map of the South suddenly dissolved, replaced by a radiant unbroken grid of azure light.
Anna stood up slowly, her shoulders relaxing just a fraction as she looked at the screen then turned her head to look at Liam.
"The Southern grid is ours," she said quietly. "We just doubled our firepower."
Liam looked at the map then back to her, a dangerous, triumphant smile cutting across his face.
"Then let the horde come. We're ready."
