I leaned closer, until I could feel the heat rising off her, until the wild light in her eyes was the only thing I saw.
“Not existing,” I said, voice low and rough. “Carrying this alone. Bearing fire that can unmake curses, burn through every cage, rewrite the rules the Houses have built their power on. Ignis vitae.”
The words froze her. Her fire stuttered, just for a second. “You knew.”
“I found fragments in the archives,” I admitted. My hand lifted, hovered, then pressed over hers where flame licked her skin. It burned, and I let it. “I didn’t know if it was real. Until now.”
