Romans & histoires Reading The Classics

Everything from classic literature to contemporary fiction to business texts and philosophy. "Find something you like?" Alex's voice came from the doorway, and I turned to find him watching me with soft eyes. "This room is incredible," I said. "Have you read all of these?" "Most of them. Some are Nick's. We've been collecting since college." He moved into the room, standing close enough that I could feel his warmth. "You're welcome to any of them. Or we can get you new ones, if you prefer." "No, these are perfect." I pulled out a worn copy of Pride and Prejudice. "This was my favorite when I was younger."

I doubt I would ever have to bring someone into my bedroom but it never hurts to be prepared. That kind of love sounded like a myth but I knew it was out there for whoever was lucky enough to find it. I had never been lucky and I doubt I would ever be. I picked up pride and prejudice, my all time favorite classic and wondered when and if I would ever find my own Mr. Darcy. Shoving sentiments aside, I opened the large bag I had come with and shoved some of the books in it. I would read them every night and come back for more when I was done with the pile.

Nathan is feeling sleepy just by glancing at the first page of Pride & Prejudice. “Let’s read the first chapter,” Halsey suggests. “I’ll focus on Elizabeth and her sister’ dialogues while you focus on the other characters. And-” Nathan throws the books aside and yawns. “Boring!” he sneers. “Are there any other books?” “This is a classic,” Halsey explains. “We can get a lot of marks if we can-” “Let’s just pick a comic and re-write that!” Nathan jokes. “That’s gonna be more interesting than some chick lit which makes no sense!”

Inside she takes a look around. “Have you read all these books?” There is a mild hint of wonder in her voice. “Most of them. I am an avid reader, we have everything from Tolstoy, Bronte, to modern day literature, biographies, and books on art, architecture, modern history, and other subjects. My father ensured his children were wide read and well versed in the classics.” “You surprise me, you don’t strike me as a man who’d read classics.” “For a few seconds they looked into each other’s eyes, and the distant and the impossible suddenly became near, possible, and inevitable.” I I quote one of my favorites from War and Peace. She cocks her head.

The more I try to draw boundaries she is making it nearly impossible for me to control myself from going and grabbing her face and kissing the shit out of her. I take a deep breath and return a soft smile," how about the classics, lex?" I ask her to divert my mind. " well, pride and prejudice is the only one I can truly think of!" she caresses the book on the book rack. " hmmm, interesting. I can't find any better than that one in the classics," I say while walking toward her. " but I think sense and sensibility were nice too, you know," I whisper not wanting to disturb other people in the store

A reader? I feel drawn to the shelf like a moth to a flame. My fingers trail over the spines — classic literature, philosophy, ancient history. Lost in the titles, my eyes land on a beautiful leather-bound edition of Wuthering Heights. I rise onto my toes, straining, my fingers just brushing its edge. It wobbles and then falls from the shelf with a heavy thud that sends a cloud of dust into the air making me sneeze twice.

Again she felt as though his words held hidden meaning and guilt flooded her at the thought of her true intentions. “What do you like to read?” “Well, Baudelaire, as I said, although some would say he is very maudlin. I like the classics.” “Like?” “Dickens, Homer..” “Aren’t they English writers?” “Yes, did you not study the classics at school?” she looked at him as though she was chiding him. “I didn’t go to Middlesex Prep.” Her head went back a little, absorbing what he had said. “How do you know I went there?”

Now, she wished she had, as she could have used his advice on how to handle the older man. After a few seconds, she realized she had remained silent too long, and Mr. Warren could misinterpret her quietness. “I actually like to read several genres,” she said in a rush, hoping to distract him from asking her out again. Or, at least, prolong it until she could think of an answer. “I don’t really have a favorite author. How about you?” “Oh, I’m a classics man, myself,” he told her. “I enjoy Hemingway, Hawthorne, Verne. Have you read any of them?”

Closing the book in his hand with a loud thud, he handed it over to me, motioning me to take it from his grip. "Here." I reached out for the slightly bulky book in his hand. In my attempt to reach it, our fingers brushed lightly. I felt something and I jolted back, taking the book along with me. The look on his face confirmed he'd felt it too. Thank goodness I'd taken the book with me. I wasn't looking forward to feel whatever that was again. He cleared his throat before going on. " Since you don't have a favorite genre, these are the classics." His hands found their way into his pockets. "You're bound to find one that you like.'

Other than my bestie, April of course. I can see the woodland straight in front of me and a lake, it’s serene and tranquil. Perfect for sitting on the deck and reading a book. I’m a huge book nerd and at the moment I’m in my classical era and currently reading Anna Karenina. One of my all-time favorites but it is an epic.
