With a roar, Elena wrenched its jaws apart until it splattered apart like rotten fruit. Someone chuckled softly and clapped. “Not bad, mongrel. Not bad at all! You survived my hounds. Congratulations. Now you have the grand honor of dying by my hand.” Elena in my body whirled around and snarled. A figure with a black tricorne hat perched on his stark white hair sauntered up to me. An ebony Carnival mask with gold etchings obscured his face. He stank of werewolf blood, and I realized that the dirt on his tattered cloak was not dirt at all, but gore and carnage. He grinned at me, his two canine fangs glinting in the sun. I shivered as he drew out a rifle with a jagged bayonet.

Her lips were cherry pink, and her nose was pointed. "Are you all right?" she asked, waving her hands in front of my face. With embarrassment, I scratched the base of my neck. "Umm. Yes, I'm fine.” "How did you get there?" she asked, furrowing her perfectly formed brows. "A massive Werewolf was going to attack me, causing my feet to slip down the cliff. Thank you for rescuing me." She chuckled, her palm resting on her lips. "I'm sorry, but I believe you're walking in a dream. I’ve never seen a huge Werewolf in my life because I used to live nearby."

Like she was empty of tears. "The mask was a gift from my mom, someone I thought I lost long before I lost my dad, I survived with an injury on my face that the doctors said would scar me. Everyone hated me after that, for taking away their alpha, for being weak and ugly." Lennox's hand came around her and held her close as she exposed more of herself. "The mask was a way of hiding my face so I don't disgust people but more than that it was what helped me stay close to my parents even when the wound was gone, I couldn't be without the mask."

However, it wasn’t pure gold; it shimmered with intertwining silver threads, like liquid moonlight coursing through the golden glow. Suddenly, my pup trembled violently, and an ancient, soul-stirring, and terrifying roar echoed. With the awakening complete, a golden paw emerged, sharp claws glinting. Then, a tiny werewolf head peeked out. “Mother!” The voice was small but clear, and two round, bright eyes stared directly at me. I flinched at the sudden call, and Kaeren appeared beside me as well. The little pup stretched, its golden fur patterned with sacred silver markings—the legendary emblem of the Primordial Lycan!

Howard Larson, the Larson family's big shot, was so in love with me that he would not let a bad cold stop our big day. He did not want to disappoint me. "Wait a second." It covered the face from the forehead to the jaw and left nothing showing except the eyes. "I made this while you were training," she said. "The wood is willow and the ash is mixed with a binding that will hide your scent from any wolf who comes close. They'll smell smoke and old wood and nothing else. No pack, no bloodline, no name."

The mask covered his entire face with ears on his head that gave a perfect description of a werewolf in human form because of his wolf-like shaped face but he wasn't too hairy. He had an armor around his waist that covered up his pelvis, well designed vambraces on his forearms and detailed greaves on his legs each.

He sighed and brushed his hand in his hair the other hand resting in his pocket and he stopped smiling and said in a deep voice, “Seeing you now is risking my life, you know my first name and for the first time I am not afraid to take such a step.” He turned to me and this time he looked straight in my eyes and he continues, “I will try and come back here to see you. But if I can’t and you can recognize me without my mask when we meet once again, then I won’t hesitate to be yours forever. This I promise.”

Zane almost gasped seeing the rogue. But more than its appearance, the almost glowing dark mark on its leg caught Zane’s eyes.
