The prison library was small and under-stocked, but to Janice, it had become a sanctuary, a refuge from the dullness and potential violence of her day-to-day life. The librarian, Norma Schelle, was a short, boyish woman in her mid-twenties, with thick, black-framed glasses and a short pixie style haircut. She was also the bright point in a staff of people who always acted like they'd rather strike an inmate than smile at them.

She stood in front of the display, carefully studying the floor plans. Unaware that a pair of sharp eyes were watching her from above. On the second floor, Rebecca North leaned against the railing. Her gaze locked onto Bianca like a predator sizing up its prey. Beside her, Bruno Keeling, the deputy director, hovered attentively, eager to please. Rebecca's lips curled into a slow smirk. Who is she? And why is she here? Bruno followed her line of sight, then chuckled. Oh, her? She's a designer from Talton Design.

A good mystery.” Ryan groaned but he led the way to that section and we spent the next twenty minutes arguing over book titles and summaries. “Can you boys keep it down.” The librarian, Mrs Doherty, said, her voice a stern whisper. “Aww, c’mon ma'am. There's practically no one here. We aren't disturbing anybody.” Ryan replied, not bothering to reduce the volume of his voice. “Doesn't matter. Rules are rules.” Her thin brows were set into an angry arch and she turned them towards me, “I would expect you to know that, Mr Young.”

I dropped my head to the book with a groan. “I don’t think the librarians would approve of your bookmark,” Rivyn commented mildly. He sat on the opposite side of the table, the heavy tome open before him and propped up on a stand. He leaned back on the chair, his ankle resting on his knee, seeming at complete ease on the uncomfortable wooden chairs.

Not even the teachers. The chief librarian, Reelik, who was also the vice-rector of the academy, took a liking to the boy. Nio was smart, fast and intuitive. Reelik despised most students at the academy. In his opinion, the students were just a bunch of spoiled rich children, and most importantly, they didn’t care about his books. The library with its books was his life. Nio took very good care of the books. Reelik taught him how to fix them, how to maintain them, and Nio was getting better at it. The two of them would stay up late into the night talking about books, magic, life, and when Nio got a little older, they would even share a bottle of Reelik's wine.

She speedily looked away, blushing faintly, and quickly walked towards the entrance door embracing the paper bag she had been holding. “Hello Madame Sella, good morning,” Lianne said, greeting sweetly the lady librarian as she took out the books from the paper bag and placed it on the countertop. Madame Sella was in her forties but still single. A kind woman in her own way, she was like Lianne’s adviser of problems; almost like a mother she never had. “Oh, hello dear.
