No longer upset with him, considering I felt like I was high on adrenaline, I stood up to face them. Ryker was the first to reach me. Roy uttered. “Right now you really behave to care because they are one of us. We both were trained perfectly inside them. And now is the time to submit our results. One of us is inside there, and we have to help. I know that you still have a grudge against them, but you can put that aside and help him; for goodness sake, this man needs us now. Please, let's try to cooperate and work as one,” Harper explained.

She unlocked a certain type of warmth and spark none of us could explain.

Then, before I can say anything, he and the warrior that escorted Harper disappear into the trees. “Stupid men,” Harper mutters under her breath. I smile at her irritation only to shout when she rips the arrow out of my thigh. “Fuck!” “Don’t move!” She hisses, pressing her hands over the gaping wound. Blood gushes out of the hole in my thigh, and I groan when she pushes down. “You could’ve given me some warning!” She doesn’t respond as I growl and dig my claws into the ground. My vision blurs as pain burns through me, but her touch dulls it. A softer, lighter feeling washes through my leg, pushing away the pain.

Back in Assura, I only heard the painful cries of our people but this--- this scene in front of me is something I refer to as a nightmare. I heard Nereza's intense growl and she's facing three rogues all alone. I saw how she lash at them and bit their limbs. One rogue is down and two are left so I took the chance to fire the weapon I am holding. With deep breaths and determination, I let go of the silver arrow. I did it! I hit the rogue! Her fingers clutch at my shirt for the briefest second before she tucks her face beneath my chin. I look up at Theo, and for once, there’s no smirk, no comment, not even a sarcastic grin. Just silence. I hold Harper tighter and let my palm rub small circles against her back. She’s been crying. I don’t need to ask. I can feel it in the way her breaths drag, shallow and tired. I can feel it in the way her body melts into mine like she needs to borrow my strength for just a little while. Theo finally speaks, his voice low. “She didn’t say red. She didn’t even say yellow.”
