CEO’s regret: Winning my wife back
I don’t blame them, I was never a trophy wife to be seen.
“Eleanor Newton?” The receptionist replies, catching on the last name.
“Yes, Arthur’s wife” I finally say, uneasy.
That gets a reaction. A laugh, short and disbelieving. She leans back in her chair, crossing her arms.
“You must be joking. Mr. Arthur Newton’s wife? Please, spare me. If I had a dollar for every delusional fan who came here claiming to be his something, I’d be retired by now.”
A few employees walk past and glance in my direction, amused whispers floating between them. Humiliation prickles at my skin, but I refuse to react.
