I muttered under my breath, berating myself. “You’re an idiot. Absolutely a colossal idiot. Who even says what you just said? That was, what? Reckless? Bold? Suicidal? You might as well have told him to cut his own head off for fun. Why can’t you just, just stay small and quiet? Like a normal person?”
I kicked a loose stone along the path, watching it clatter against the roots. The sound echoed faintly in the quiet night, too loud for how nervous I felt.
