He looked at me, his eyes unreadable, his expression a mixture of shock and anger.
"What are you saying?" his voice was low, a dangerous rumble.
My throat went dry as I repeated, "There's someone else, alpha Xander. The rogue, he's just another pawn."
His expression didn't change, but the tension in his muscles, the barely suppressed growl that vibrated in his throat, told me everything I needed to know.
"How do you know this?" he asked me, his voice tight.
I started to explain, about the rogue's demeanor, the way he moved, the flicker in his eyes, the scent of fear and desperation, the scent of someone forced into a role they never wanted.
