Ronan's jaws clamped down, a blur of teeth and fur, tearing into the invader with a fury that spoke of pure, unadulterated Alpha rage.
The other cloaked figures, momentarily distracted by the colossal clash, turned their attention to me. They raised their glowing blades, the energy humming menacingly. Before they could strike, Ronan, with a final, sickening crunch, broke the black wolf's neck. He didn't pause. His dark eyes, still wolfen, snapped to the remaining threats near me.
But it was too late. As Ronan surged forward, one of the cloaked figures lunged at me, blade whistling through the air. My mind screamed. No! My body reacted, not by moving, but by flaring.
