Here.” She explained and put on her mask. “What normal couple? You guys are out? As in officially?” I looked at Ethan and he nodded his head. My eyes widen.

Bella tried to not react. As much as her heart was in distress and her legs trembled in panic, she tried to remain calm, thinking that she had to make sure he would not recognize her. There was no way for him to recognize her, right? She did not have a scent on her. More than half of her face was covered with the mask. He should not recognize her!

Meanwhile, Oli, Ryan, and Sally arrived at the party. Sally looked prim and proper with her blush pink ball gown and beaded white mask. Her hair was up neatly in a bun like a princess. Oli, on the other hand, went to have an edgier vibe. Oli wore a classic black and red combination with the flares and all that made for dancing, it looked quite revealing too, and her mask was ruby red. Her arms linked with Ryan’s, who was dressed neatly in his white polo with rolled-up sleeves and black fitted vest along with a black mask with its sharp corners.

She reapply powder, blush, lipstick. “You cannot let him see your fear,” she told her reflection. “You’ll play this cool. The ball’s in your court now.” But her stomach twisted when she remembered the look on his face earlier, disgust, as if she were something filthy. Clenching her fists, she braced herself and left the restroom.

With a quick flick of her wrist, she untied the mask's fastening and peeled it off her face. I sucked in a breath, my eyes widening in surprise. There was a split second when my breathing seemed to be suspended. Allison was beautiful- more beautiful than I had imagined. I had spent hours drawing a sketch of the rest of her features in my mind. Those deep green eyes were set in a heart-shaped face. Her lips- innocent of make up- were naturally full, pink, and moist. There were dark lines across her face, indicative of the mask which from the looks of it she had been putting on for years. Apart from that, her skin was clear and unblemished.

Seeing each other, fully, for the first time. No masks. No mirrors. Just the real face.
