Xanvier's pov I was met with emptiness when I tried to cuddle Sandra. I forced my eyes open as I turned back to see just her pillow. I sat up and saw her silhouette before tracing it to the window. There she stood, her petite frame trembling under the moon rays. "Why is she standing like that?" I wondered. Her eyes glued to the curtains as her grip threatens to rip it apart. "Sandra", I called but no reply. "Sandra". I called again, this time a little louder.

Inside the package, she found a stack of morning papers. "For both of us," I informed her when she came across a smaller package. Sandra removed the wrapping to reveal a thick stack of picture postcards. "What's this?" She asked. "Just a something for my book," I said and then changed the subject by adding, "We will pass some wonderful views in a few minutes, and it would be sad to miss them," I continued. "We'll pass over the river at Chiefwater, where they constructed the bridges into an ancient fortress."

He was always alone since no kids from their neighborhood wanted to play with him even a little. The boy built a sandcastle using the red bucket. The boy had dull skin, as if no blood run in his veins. His small, frail hand tapped hard on the back of the bucket. The sand fell atop the sandcastle. It ruined what he had built. The disappointment was visible on his face as he stared at the broken sandcastle. The boy turned his head afterward toward where the car was and that’s when their eyes meet.

Sandro winced, rubbing the back of his head after colliding with a tall tree. Standing up, he took a deep breath and surveyed the forest surroundings. He was certain he was in some kind of forest, thanks to Clarisse's questionable idea. Arabella was nowhere in sight, and Sandro wondered about her whereabouts. Dusting his hand on the leather jacket he wore, he approached the forest opening, muttering, "What the hell?" His eyes widened as he halted, observing a surreal scene before him – a gathering of a thousand phoenixes as if stumbling upon a slumber party.

Everyone had the same goal here. The last of the setting sun began to dip, allowing darkness to take over the desert. The Red Sand Clan members guarding the site watched on in terror. The weapons in their hands fell to the ground with a clatter. Just then, dozens of skeleton hands reached up from the sand, pulling the clan members to the ground. Following that, the skeletons crawled out of the sand to pounce on them, tearing them to shreds.

Sandra proudly holds up a novel featuring a shirtless pirate hugging a woman while lightning strikes behind them. "I think I win." I raise the book in my hand. Mine features a billionaire standing on a mountain wearing a tuxedo while wolves howl around him. Sandra stares at it. "Why are there wolves?" "I don't know." "Why is he on a mountain?" "I also don't know." "Why is he wearing a tuxedo?" "I've stopped asking questions." She laughs so hard she has to lean against a bookshelf. "I cannot believe someone approved this." "The wolves approved it."
