I struggle to maintain my blank expression. "Arse? Really?" Anthony says again. This time his lips twitch with a repressed smile. "Don't make me laugh, damn it, I'm trying to be mad at you here" I groan. And then he smiles, a dazzling, full-toothed, all American-boy smile, and I can't help it. I am grinning too. "Just because I have a silly grin on my face doesn't mean I'm abandoning my course so tell me exactly what your problem is so we can fix it" I mutter breathlessly.

He has a defeated look in his face. "Okay. Thank you for your time." I say with my voice laced with a lot of disappointment and fear "I'm sorry I couldn't help you. Good luck." He says regretfully. Despite his dire circumstances, Tyler's lips curve into a sardonic smile, and he begins cracking jokes, injecting an unexpected humor into the grim situation in an attempt to cheer me up after seeing the sadness in my eyes. His witty remarks, laced with sarcasm, hang in the air, momentarily lightening the heavy atmosphere of the dungeon.

I shot him a glare over my shoulder… only to see that damn grin. Grinning. GRINNING! For the first time. Well... damn. Who would’ve imagine? Even the devil knows how to smile.

I was guessing whatever Gwardia told him was not pleasant. "Yeah, just trying to adjust to the fact that I am some hybrid rainbow unicorn, minus the horn," I placed my hand on my forehead with my index finger protruding out to indicate where the horn should be. And his plump lips pursed, the wrinkles on his forehead disappeared as the edges of his eyes crinkled and a hearty laugh escaped his throat as he clutched his stomach and bent over. Damn! How enigmatic and heart-warming was his laugh, almost contagious.

He winked. Grace finally looked up, her eyes slowly travelling down his build, deliberately, from his boots to his head. “They really do stack the personality vertically when they run out of room elsewhere, don’t they?” The man suddenly frowned, his neck getting red. “What did you say, skinny bitch?” She shrugged, “It was a height joke. Now, leave.” The man angrily swept his arm over the table and everything on it shattered to the floor, drinks spilling over Grave and Wren, stunning them.

Insert sarcasm. I looked at Eula and plastered an evil grin on my face. She widened her eyes at me, looking stressed as ever. "I said, my name is Florence Mil," I said and flashed an innocent smile. "Oh, your office looks dull, by the way. It's plain and boring, the cabinets are not even well organized, and the colors... tsk, tsk, tsk... whoever designed this office has a bad taste." I shook my head and pretend to be disgusted.

I don’t condone violence, but I find myself wanting to slap his stupid, handsome face. “What gives you that impression?” Sarcasm drips from every word. “Come on now, Gracie, don’t be like that. Admit it, no matter how much I annoy you, you are enjoying having me around. It brings some excitement to your usual dull life.” He chuckles.

I took a deep breath and faced him but I couldn’t speak. He’s looking at me smiling like a lunatic and I don’t know why. I hit him in the arm and he just laughed at me. Why is he so mean? Here I am crying in front of him but he’s just grinning like a dog who got treats right there. “Why are you smiling like a lunatic?” I asked as I raised my brow. He continued chuckling and said, “It’s just that, you look… unpretty when crying.”

He scoffed. "I'm Elena Marshall and you are?" "Griffin McCoy Smith!" He blurted out while fastening the buttons of his t-shirt. I scoffed before bursting into a cackle. "Seriously?" "What!" He stared at me with furrowed brows. "Did your parents not like you? I mean, you are always without a smile and your name sounds almost synonymous to a Grinch!" I let out a loud chuckle and watch him stare at me irritatedly. "Ha-ha! Very funny!" He gave a sarcastic laugh while putting his socks on.

The thought made him snigger. Wes turned the gun towards Jack. “You got a sorry for my baby girl, smiler?” The expression on his face changed. One moment he was serious and tortured, and the next he grinned. Lips ripped back, revealing the shine and polish of dentures. The loose skin around his mouth stretched taut. His eyes drew to thin slits surrounded by crow’s feet. The laugh that seeped out of him was wheezy and full of spite. “Now this is a smile,” he said.
