A vague sense of unease crept into her chest. She had been standing nearby during his call with Reily and heard every word. Carl's eyes were clouded with something like confusion. "She just said… she was the one who saved me when I was a child." Lucy's face shifted into practiced hurt. "Carl, are you saying you think I lied to you? That I pretended to be your savior? "I can't believe how manipulative Reily has become. Back when we were close, I once told her that I was the one who rescued you. Now she's desperate, so she's trying to impersonate me. She's trying to earn your sympathy and guilt."

That the man accused of trafficking women was the same one who saved me. And the worst part was that he had saved me. That part was true. The room went quiet for a moment.
