WHAT HE ERASED
The scan room was dim, the machine humming, the technician a woman named Priya who I'd seen twice before and who had the particular calm of someone who did this forty times a week and still seemed to find it interesting.
"Two fathers today?" she asked cheerfully, gesturing at the two extra chairs.
"One sister, one father," I said. "Long story."
"Most of them are," Priya said, unbothered, and started the scan.
