I dropped back on my bed, ready to surrender to the ache in my chest—when my phone finally pinged. My breath hitched. My sweet boy, No. 13 Dracula Estate, East Coast. Crystal chandeliers sparkled through the tall windows, and soft music floated out into the warm night. Elian stepped out first, looking sharp in a deep burgundy suit that hugged his frame perfectly. The rich color made his skin glow and it brought out the dangerous spark in his eyes. Dex followed right behind him in a sleek all-black suit with a matching burgundy tie. It was definitely a silent statement that they belonged together, whether they liked it or not.

Scarlett’s POV The flowers were wildflowers. That was the first thing I noticed, standing in the sitting room with my coffee going cold in my hands and my heart doing something irregular in my chest. Not the arranged, predictable kind that came from a florist with their stems cut to identical lengths and their colours selected for maximum inoffensiveness. She looks up and me and smiles. "Violets are one of the first flowers of spring and a symbol of faithful love. Purple violets are for new love. Doesn't your new love deserve some?" She picks up a bundle tied with a white ribbon. I don't tell her no, I don't say a word for a moment, just give her a dollar and turn and walk away. I stop and turn back to her, "Thank you." And keep walking just looking at the little bundle of purple flowers.
